Power and the Aerial Sublime in Victor Pelevin

open access: yesThe Russian Review, Volume 82, Issue 4, Page 582-598, October 2023., 2023
Abstract This essay distinguishes flight as a salient trope throughout multiple Pelevin texts: Omon Ra (1992), Chapaev and the Void (1996), Generation P (1999), Empire V (2006), and Love for Three Zuckerbrins (2014). It examines flight through the aesthetics of the sublime—classical, (post)‐Soviet, and postmodern.

Revisiting the emission line source detection problem in integral field spectroscopic data

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 344, Issue 5, June 2023., 2023
Abstract We present a 3‐dimensional matched filtering approach for the blind search of faint emission‐line sources in integral‐field spectroscopic datasets. The filter is designed to account for the spectrally rapidly varying background noise due to the telluric air glow spectrum.

Effect of the metallicity of the intergalactic medium in the Lyman‐α forest correlation function

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 344, Issue 1-2, January-February 2023., 2023
Abstract The Lyman‐α (Lyα) forest allows to constraint cosmological parameters at redshifts above 1.8$$ 1.8 $$ using the technique of standard rulers determined by baryon acoustic oscillations. This makes it an important tracer for the study of the universe at high redshift.

THE RE‐DISCOVERY OF CONTEMPLATION THROUGH SCIENCE

open access: yesZygon®, Volume 56, Issue 3, Page 758-776, September 2021., 2021
Abstract Some of the early‐modern changes in the social framing of science, while often believed to be essential, are shown to be contingent. They contribute to the flawed public narrative around science today, and especially to the misconceptions around science and religion.

On the Electromagnetic Vacuum Origins of Dark Energy, Dark Matter, and Astrophysical Jets

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
We use a semiclassical version of the Nexus paradigm of quantum gravity in which the quantum vacuum at large scales is dominated by the second quantized electromagnetic field to demonstrate that a virtual photon field can affect the geometric evolution of Einstein manifolds or Ricci solitons.

Detecting shocked intergalactic gas with X-ray and radio observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Detecting the thermal and non-thermal emission from the shocked cosmic gas surrounding large-scale structures represents a challenge for observations, as well as a unique window into the physics of the warm-hot intergalactic medium.

The Observed O vi Is Just the Tip of the Iceberg: Estimating the Hidden Material in Circumgalactic and Intergalactic Clouds

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
This paper proposes a new method for estimating the total quantity of material in moving circumgalactic and intergalactic clouds from O vi measurements. We simulate high-velocity clouds (HVCs) with the FLASH hydrodynamic code and track the ionization and

The dark form of matter, on optical transmittance of ultra diluted gas

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2020
The paper proposes a model of optical transmittance of ultra diluted gas taking into account gas particles non-locality, the quantum effect of wave function spreading derived from solving the Schrödinger equation for a free particle.

The future of galaxies and the fate of intelligent life [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Astronomical Journal, 1999
We investigate the influence of recent advances in research on the gaseous content of the universe on our knowledge of star formation histories of spiral galaxies.

Intergalactic Gas [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1974
Evidence that rich clusters of galaxies contain hot (T = 108 K) intracluster gas is reviewed. Such gas contributes little to Ω (0.003) but it has been argued that Ω must be less than 0.05 for true intergalactic gas, if accretion of more gas than is observed in rich clusters is to be avoided.
