Evolution of interleukin-1β

Cytokine & Growth Factor Reviews, 2002
All jawed vertebrates possess a complex immune system, which is capable of anticipatory and innate immune responses. Jawless vertebrates possess an equally complex immune system but with no evidence of an anticipatory immune response. From these findings it has been speculated that the initiation and regulation of the immune system within vertebrates ...

The Presence of Interleukin-1beta in the Bovine Reproductive Tract

Journal of Interferon & Cytokine Research, 1999
Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a pleiotropic cytokine implicated in endometrial and embryonic physiology. Our objective was to determine the presence of IL-1 in the endometrium, oviduct, and uterine fluid of cows at days 0, 7, and 14 of the estrous cycle. Immunoreactive IL-1beta was identified in endometrial and oviductal tissues throughout the estrous cycle ...

Biological activity of human epidermal interleukin-1beta: comparison with recombinant human interleukin-1beta.

European cytokine network, 1998
We have recently presented evidence that human plantar stratum corneum and psoriatic scales contain biologically active interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) which has been activated in a process not involving interleukin-1beta-converting-enzyme. The aim of the present study was to compare this form of native IL-1beta with recombinant mature human IL-1beta as ...

[Interleukin-1beta and depressive states].

Rossiiskii fiziologicheskii zhurnal imeni I.M. Sechenova, 2002
Administration of Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) in pyrogenic and subpyrogenic doses induced a depression of social and exploratory behaviour in rats. A reduction in locomotor activity only occurred with pyrogenic doses of the IL-1 beta. The low dose induced the reduction whereas the high dose the increase of anxiety in elevated plus maze. The opposite
