Caspase‐1/interleukin‐1beta signaling in diabetic retinopathy

Acta Ophthalmologica, 2008
Abstract Purpose The pro‐inflammatory cytokine, interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β), is known to induce vascular dysfunction and cell death. Previously, we have shown that caspase‐1 activity is increased in retinas of diabetic and galactosemic mice, and diabetic patients.

Interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) processing pathway.

Science signaling, 2010
The innate immune system senses molecular patterns from invading microorganisms. Once activated, it orchestrates the inflammatory response by secreting proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-1 (IL-1)-type cytokines, in particular IL-1beta. IL-1 mediates the expression of a vast array of genes involved in secondary inflammation.

Interleukin-1beta gene in esophageal, gastric and colorectal carcinomas.

Oncology reports, 2007
Interleukin (IL)-1 gene polymorphisms are associated with development of gastric atrophy and with increased risk of gastric carcinoma. A -31C to T base transition in the promoter region of this gene is involved in carcinogenic changes within the stomach, especially in Helicobacter pylori infected individuals.

LL-Z1271alpha: an interleukin-1beta production inhibitor.

Biochemical and biophysical research communications, 2001
LL-Z1271alpha, a fungal metabolite, dose-dependently inhibited interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated human whole blood. Oral administration of LL-Z1271alpha to LPS-challenged mice caused significant lowering in the IL-1beta levels in peritoneal cavity.

Interleukin-1beta stimulates phospholipase A2 activity in adult rat ventricular myocytes

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1997
We have examined whether interleukin (IL)-1beta modulates phospholipase A2 (PLA2) activity in ventricular myocytes. PLA2 activity was measured in isolated membrane and cytosol fractions with (16:0,[3H]18:1) plasmenylcholine and (16:0,[3H]18:1) phosphatidylcholine in the absence and presence of Ca2+.

Interleukin-1beta promotes repair of the CNS.

The Journal of neuroscience : the official journal of the Society for Neuroscience, 2001
Interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) is a proinflammatory cytokine associated with the pathophysiology of demyelinating disorders such as multiple sclerosis and viral infections of the CNS. However, we demonstrate here that IL-1beta appears to promote remyelination in the adult CNS.

[Recommendations on therapy using interleukin-1beta-blocking agents].

Zeitschrift fur Rheumatologie, 2010
In Germany, the only available interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) blocking agent is anakinra (ANR) (as of August 2009) which is given subcutaneously at a dosage of 100 mg/day (adults) and 1-2 mg/kg body weight/day (maximum 100 mg/day) (children), respectively.

ICEBERG: a novel inhibitor of interleukin-1beta generation.

Cell, 2000
ProIL-1beta is a proinflammatory cytokine that is proteolytically processed to its active form by caspase-1. Upon receipt of a proinflammatory stimulus, an upstream adaptor, RIP2, binds and oligomerizes caspase-1 zymogen, promoting its autoactivation.

Salazosulfapyridine suppresses chondrocyte mediated degradation induced by interleukin 1beta.

The Journal of rheumatology, 1997
To investigate the effects of salazosulfapyridine (SASP) and methotrexate (MTX) on interleukin (IL)-1beta treated rabbit chondrocytes.Normal rabbit chondrocytes were cultured to confluency. IL-1beta was added to serum-free culture medium in the presence or absence of SASP or MTX.

A role for geranylgeranylation in interleukin‐1β secretion

Arthritis & Rheumatism, 2006
AbstractObjectiveMevalonate kinase deficiency (MKD) is an autosomal‐recessive disorder characterized by recurring episodes of inflammation. MK catalyzes the phosphorylation of mevalonic acid, which is an early step in isoprenoid biosynthesis. The goal of our study was to determine whether a temporary shortage of certain isoprenoid end products and/or ...
