Internal Loading Distribution in Statically Loaded Ball Bearings Subjected to an Eccentric Thrust Load [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, 2009
Rolling‐element bearings are simple machine elements of great utility used both in simple commercial devices as in complex engineering mechanisms. Because of being a very popular machine element, there is a lot of literature on the subject. With regard to the behavior of internal loading distribution, elastic deformations at point or line contacts, and

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Internal viscoelastic loading in cat papillary muscle

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1982
The passive mechanical properties of myocardium were defined by measuring force responses to rapid length ramps applied to unstimulated cat papillary muscles. The immediate force changes following these ramps recovered partially to their initial value, suggesting a series combination of viscous element and spring.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Relationships between External, Wearable Sensor-Based, and Internal Parameters: A Systematic Review

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) are used to record training and match play of intermittent team sport athletes. Paired with estimates of internal responses or adaptations to exercise, practitioners gain insight into players’ dose–response ...

The International Mass Loading Service [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The International Mass Loading Service computes four loadings: a) atmospheric pressure loading; b) land water storage loading; c) oceanic tidal loading; and d) non-tidal oceanic loading. The service provides to users the mass loading time series in three forms: 1) pre-computed time series for a list of 849 space geodesy stations; 2) pre-computed time ...

Monitoring Internal and External Load During Volleyball Competition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance, 2022
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the relationships between continuously measured internal and external load variables during volleyball competition. Methods: A total of 8 male elite volleyball athletes (Belgian Liga A and Liga B) were monitored during official competition matches.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.
