A pedagogical introduction to the replica method for fragile glasses

open access: yes, 1999
In this note I present a simplified version of the recent computation (Mezard and Parisi 1998, 1999) of the properties of glasses in the low temperature phase in the framework of the replica theory, using an extension of the tools used in liquid theory ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Vibrations of Plate Strips with Internal Periodic Structure

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 2015
In this note vibrations of thin periodic plate strips with periodically distributed systems of three concentrated masses are analysed. Results of the non-asymptotic tolerance model are compared to those by the exact discrete model.

Symmetry of Anomalous Dimension Matrices for Colour Evolution of Hard Scattering Processes

open access: yes, 2005
In a recent paper, Dokshitzer and Marchesini rederived the anomalous dimension matrix for colour evolution of $gg \to gg$ scattering, first derived by Kidonakis, Oderda and Sterman.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Symmetric Reduction and Hamilton-Jacobi Equation of Rigid Spacecraft with a Rotor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, we consider the rigid spacecraft with an internal rotor as a regular point reducible regular controlled Hamiltonian (RCH) system. In the cases of coincident and non-coincident centers of buoyancy and gravity, we give explicitly the motion ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Mechanics and thermodynamics: A link between the two theories

open access: yesApplications in Engineering Science
In this note, we analyse the relationships that should govern the use of thermodynamics in fluid mechanics in a way that we believe is understandable to mathematicians.
