Geochemical study of Recoaro Terme and Valli del Pasubio area mineral springs (Vicenza Pre-Alps)

open access: yesAcque Sotterranee
[Article in Italian] The mineral waters of the Vicenza Prealps - “Piccole Dolomiti” area, including the basins of the Agno and Leogra streams (Vicenza province), have been characterized from a geochemical point of view.

International Water Center

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1984
The urban district of Nancy and the Town of Nancy, France, have taken the initiative of creating an International Center of Water (Centre International de l'Eau à Nancy—NAN.C.I.E.) in association with two universities, six engineering colleges, the Research Centers of Nancy, the Rhine‐Meuse Basin Agency, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

On the Problem of Radar Monitoring of Ice Cover Formation and Destruction on Inland Waters: First Assessments

open access: yesRussian Journal of Earth Sciences
Remote sensing methods are widely used to monitor ongoing climate change, and the area of sea ice in the Arctic and Antarctic is used as one of the criteria.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Fatal predation of oilfish, Ruvettus pretiosus (Gempylidae), by a young short-finned pilot whale, Globicephala macrorhynchus (Delphinidae)

open access: yesCuadernos de investigación UNED, 2013
We found a dead whale (Globicephalus macrorhynchus) whose probable cause of death was an internal injury produced by a 1m-long oilfish (Ruvettus pretiosus) that had bitten the whale´s stomach from the inside.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Interactions Between Nonlinear Internal Ocean Waves and the Atmosphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
The heterogeneity in surface roughness caused by transient, nonlinear internal ocean waves is readily observed in coastal waters. However, the quantifiable impact this heterogeneity has on the marine atmospheric surface layer has not been documented.
