Assessment of Outcome During Hospital Stay in Patients with Decompensated Chronic Liver Disease with Sepsis Using PT-INR To Albumin Ratio (PTAR) Score in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Puducherry

open access: yesNational Board of Examinations Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Decompensated chronic liver disease with sepsis is a life-threatening condition and associated with high mortality. Early risk stratification using reliable prognostic score is essential.

The international normalized ratio does not reflect bleeding risk in esophageal variceal hemorrhage

open access: yesThe Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology, 2015
Background/Aims: The international normalized ratio (INR) has not been validated as a predictor of bleeding risk in cirrhotics. The aim of this study was to determine whether elevation in the INR correlated with risk of esophageal variceal hemorrhage and

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Impact of Vitamin K Administration on Elevated International Normalized Ratio in Chronic Liver Disease

open access: yesClinical and Applied Thrombosis/Hemostasis, 2023
Limited studies assess the efficacy of vitamin K administration in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). However, vitamin K is commonly used to treat elevations in international normalized ratio (INR) in these patients with the intended benefit of ...

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Does prophylactic antibiotic administration for tooth extraction affect PT-INR in patients taking warfarin?

open access: yesBMC Oral Health, 2020
Background Various antibiotics and analgesics have been reported to interact with warfarin. Reports that investigate the effects of medication taken for just a few days during tooth extraction on the prothrombin time-international normalized ratio are ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Relationship between Use of Aspirin and Post-Extraction bleeding Time: A Single Blind Study

open access: yesAdvances in Human Biology, 2013
Background: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of low dose aspirin before tooth extraction. Materials and Method: The study group consisted of 5, patients who were scheduled to undergo dental extractions. All patients were receiving 7, -
