A case report of levetiracetam Ingestion and raise in Prothrombin time and International Normalized Ratio (INR)

open access: yesTelangana Journal of Psychiatry, 2017
We report a case of raised Prothrombin Time (PT) and International Normalized Ratio (INR) in a young male after ingestion of 3500 mgs of Levetiracetam as a suicidal attempt. No thrombocytopenia or raised liver enzyme disturbances were noticed. There were

Prothrombin Time-International Normalized Ratio Predicts the Outcome of Atrial Fibrillation Patients Taking Rivaroxaban

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Background: Although direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) are considered to be safe, over or under anticoagulation and increased bleeding or thromboembolic risk are still considered individually.

N‐acetylcysteine for non‐paracetamol‐induced acute liver failure in children: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim Non‐surgical treatment of acute liver failure (ALF) is primarily supportive and depends on the underlying cause. While N‐acetylcysteine (NAC) is proven effective in paracetamol‐induced ALF, its potential benefits in non‐paracetamol ALF for paediatric patients remain unclear.

[Comparison of point of care capillary international normalized ratio (INR) with INR measured in venous samples].

open access: yesRevista medica de Chile, 2020
INR is used to monitor the treatment with vitamin K antagonists. A strategy to reduce waiting times for sampling is to measure INR in a capillary sample using a portable point of care (POC) type coagulometer. To evaluate the correlation of CoaguChek Pro II™, Xprecia™ and microINR™ with venous INR measured at the clinical laboratory and their ease of use.

Warfarin time in therapeutic range of primary healthcare patients in the Western Cape Province, South Africa

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Introduction Warfarin therapy is the mainstay of anticoagulation treatment in South Africa and requires frequent INR monitoring due to interindividual patient variability. Time in therapeutic range (TTR) reflects the proportion of total treatment time during which INR values are within therapeutic range.

Comparing outcomes using low‐dose apixaban and anti‐Xa monitoring and vitamin K antagonists in patients with renal replacement therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background Guidelines recommend oral anticoagulation for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation and secondary prevention of venous thromboembolism. Outside the United States, apixaban is unlicensed for use in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) receiving renal replacement therapy (RRT).
