Planar magnetic structures in coronal mass ejection-driven sheath regions [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2016
Planar magnetic structures (PMSs) are periods in the solar wind during which interplanetary magnetic field vectors are nearly parallel to a single plane.

Sub-ion-gyro scale magnetic field compressions generated by the solar wind interaction with the moon

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2023
Short-period magnetic enhancements were detected by the MAP-LMAG magnetometer onboard Kaguya orbiting the moon in the solar wind at an altitude of 100 km.

Cluster observes the Earth’s magnetopause: coordinated four-point magnetic field measurements [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2001
The four-spacecraft Cluster mission has provided high-time resolution measurements of the magnetic field from closely maintained separation distances (200–600 km).

CLUSTER encounters with the high altitude cusp: boundary structure and magnetic field depletions [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2004
Data from the four spacecraft Cluster mission during a high altitude cusp crossing on 13 February 2001 are presented. The spacecraft configuration has one leading spacecraft, with the three trailing spacecraft lying in a plane that corresponds roughly

Martian Atmospheric Loss Through Foreshock Transient Events

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 4, 28 February 2026.
Abstract At Mars, the MAVEN spacecraft has made observations of Hot Flow Anomalies (HFAs) in the foreshock. Due to the bow shock's proximity to the planet, it is theorized that HFAs contribute to atmospheric escape at Mars through the excavation of ionospheric ions.

Computational aspects of multilevel trajectory optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper presents new computational results in multilevel trajectory optimization. The original formulation of trajectory decomposition is extended and applied to a difficult multiple arc trajectory example, the low thrust interplanetary swingby ...

On the probability distribution function of small scale interplanetary magnetic field fluctuations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In spite of a large number of papers dedicated to study MHD turbulence in the solar wind there are still some simple questions which have never been sufficiently addressed like: a)do we really know how the magnetic field vector orientation fluctuates in ...

The relationship between interplanetary discontinuities and Alfvén waves: Ulysses observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1994
The rate of occurrence of interplanetary discontinuities (ROID) is examined using Ulysses magnetic field and plasma data from 1 to 5 AU radial distance from the Sun and at high heliographic latitudes. We find two regions where the ROID is high: in stream‐stream interaction regions and in Alfvén wave trains.

Ion‐Scale Wave Emission and Absorption for Non‐Maxwellian Velocity Distributions in the Inner Heliosphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract Hot and tenuous plasmas have velocity distribution functions (VDFs) significantly different from Maxwellian distributions. Characterizing how these differences impact wave damping and emission necessitates sophisticated methods for determining the associated dielectric plasma response.

Analytical Insights into Inaccurate Normal Vector Determination by Minimum Variance Analysis of Magnetic Fields

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
It has been widely recognized that the minimum variance analysis of magnetic fields (MVAB) often fails to accurately predict the direction normal to a discontinuity or current sheet, compared with multiple-spacecraft methods.
