Causal Impact of the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program on Hospital Readmissions and Mortality
Estimating causal effects of the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP), part of the Affordable Care Act, has been very controversial. Associational studies have demonstrated decreases in hospital readmissions, consistent with the intent of the ...

Hungry for Knowledge: Octopamine Signaling Regulates Hunger‐Enhanced Olfactory Learning
Researchers demonstrate that hunger state facilitates both aversive and appetitive olfactory learning. Two distinct octopamine signaling pathways are involved in aversive or appetitive memory formation in the hunger state. And, hunger state also facilitates the formation of both types of memories via an evolutionarily conserved norepinephrine (the ...

Interruption overload: telephones in Ford Madox Ford’s "4692 Padd", "A Call" and "A Man Could Stand Up" [PDF]
Ford Madox Ford’s short story “‘4692 Padd’” (1908), his novella A Call (1910), and his novel A Man Could Stand Up— (1926) all exploit the narratological potential of the rhetorical tropes of interruption.

Light Therapy Alleviates Addiction‐Related Symptoms and Reshapes Habenula and Midbrain Pathways
This study investigates light therapy for treating Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD). Functional MRI (fMRI) data reveal that light therapy enhances brain connectivity, particularly between the habenula and the medial orbitofrontal cortex (mOFC). These changes are associated with reduced withdrawal symptoms and addiction severity, highlighting the ...

Resorbable impedance sensors are successfully implanted into porcine small intestinal anastomoses. Impedance was recorded for 2 hours prior, and 2 hours following ischemia induction, and a significant drop in tissue impedance was observed. Abstract Anastomotic failure remains one of the most severe complications in gastrointestinal surgery.

Bio‐Based Wax Interfaces for Droplet Energy Harvesting at Fluoropolymer‐Like Output Levels
Replacing unsustainable fluorinated polymers in droplet‐based energy harvesters is usually limited by low power outputs, but carefully selected bio‐based polymers are capable of creating fluoropolymer‐like voltage outputs. Abstract Droplet impact and rebound on solid surfaces has emerged as a promising method for energy harvesting, typically ...
