Speciation with gene flow

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Biodiversity is threatened by human activities, with extinction debt accumulating rapidly. Many of these activities change the connectivity of populations, fragmenting existing population systems or bringing previously isolated populations or species into contact.

Analysis of the meiotic segregation in intergeneric hybrids of tilapias [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Tilapia species exhibit a large ecological diversity and an important propensity to interspecific hybridisation. This has been shown in the wild and used in aquaculture.

Transcriptomic stress responses in Vaccinium spp. F1 hybrids: Implications for temperature‐resilient cranberry breeding using a crop wild relative

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate extremes threaten the sustainability of cranberry production, a culturally and economically important North American crop. This study demonstrates that wild cranberries (Vaccinium oxycoccos) harbor genetic variation that may enhance cold stress resilience when introduced into cultivated cranberry through hybridization.

Breeding properties and cytological characteristics of interspecific hybrids between the Ussuri plum and bullace

open access: yesТруды по прикладной ботанике, генетике и селекции
Background. Interspecific hybrids between the Ussuri plum (Prunus salicina subsp. ussuriensis (Koval. et Kost.) Erem.) and bullace (P. domestica subsp. insititia (Jusl.) Schneid.) were studied to discover causes of their low yields.

Relaxed trait covariance in interspecific cichlid hybrids predicts morphological diversity in adaptive radiations

open access: yes, 2014
The process of adaptive radiation involves multiple events of speciation in short succession, associated with ecological diversification. Understanding this process requires identifying the origins of heritable phenotypic variation that allows ...

Seedling resistance and chemical defenses against Psylliodes chrysocephala: the roles of seed age and sinapinic acid in Sinapis alba and Brassica napus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) is a major pest of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus). We tested B. napus and Sinapis alba seedlings for feeding resistance and underlying chemical defenses. S. alba was least damaged, while metabolite profiles revealed resistance‐linked compounds, highlighting breeding potential for insect ...

Statistical correlations in winter triticale hybrids

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2019
The aim of the study was to evaluate the correlations between the hybrids F1, F2, and F3, obtained by different methods, their plasticity and stability, as well as to identify the probability of cytogenetic balances formed in F3 and the possibility to ...
