Engineering a Hybrid Heme Pathway for Hemoprotein‐Based Dye‐Decolorizing Peroxidase in Escherichia coli

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, EarlyView.
In this study, the heme content and enzymatic activity of the RhDypB mutant strain RhDypB‐R80 were enhanced through optimized heme uptake and pathway integration. This engineered host presents a promising platform for hemoprotein engineering and holds potential for applications in controlling mycotoxin contamination in food products.

Responses of leaf anatomy, growth, and physiology in backcross 1 progeny from Saccharum spp. hybrids and S. spontaneum under drought stress at early growth phase [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
A deeper understanding of the anatomical, physiological, and morphological responses of interspecific hybrid sugarcane to water deficit conditions could enhance the efficiency of developing drought-resistance varieties.

Characterization of Phytophthora hybrids from ITS clade 6 associated with riparian ecosystems in South Africa and Australia

open access: yes, 2013
Surveys of Australian and South African rivers revealed numerous Phytophthora isolates residing in clade 6 of the genus, with internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene regions that were either highly polymorphic or unsequenceable.

Tiny carriers, big impact: How Fusobacterium nucleatum extracellular vesicles drive oral diseases and beyond

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
This review explores how Fusobacterium nucleatum extracellular vesicles drive local oral diseases and distal pathologies via sophisticated cross‐compartment cross talk. It highlights the transformative potential of these “tiny carriers” as next‐generation molecular intermediaries for advanced health monitoring and innovative bio‐interventions by ...

Shared foraging behaviors between hyenas and hominins in the Middle Paleolithic Levant: New evidence from Geula Cave, Israel

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While competition with large carnivores is likely to have shaped Middle Paleolithic hominins' subsistence behavior, palimpsested human and carnivore accumulations render the signal challenging to isolate. This study presents a detailed zooarchaeological and taphonomic analysis of a non‐anthropogenic faunal assemblage from a MIS 5 (~130–80 ka ...

Preharvest supplemental lighting enhances productivity and modulates postharvest quality in hydroponically grown Apulian unripe melon ‘Scopatizzo’ (Cucumis melo L.)

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Preharvest light management is increasingly used to enhance yield and fruit quality in soilless systems, yet its effects on unripe melon fruits remain poorly understood. This study evaluated the impact of supplemental red–blue light‐emitting diode (LED) lighting applied during cultivation in a closed‐cycle hydroponic system on ...
