On the question of interstellar silicate absorption

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1970
The observations of the absorption feature in the infrared spectrum by Knacke, Gaustad, Gillett, and Stein are discussed; and doubts concerning their identifying silicate minerals in interstellar grains are ...

Interstellar absorption lines in the ultraviolet [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
This Proefschrift is the report on studies of interstellar lines which I have carried out since early 1972. As these studies mainly are based on new observations, several small publications accrued, as reproduced in the chapters 2 through 6 and the ...

First Principles Rovibronic Absorption Spectra of HF Molecule. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Comput Chem
Hydrogen fluoride (HF) is astrophysically important, as it has been detected in sunspots, Venus, red giants, and the interstellar medium, serving as a probe of exoplanet atmospheres. This article presents an ab initio investigation of HF rovibronic spectroscopy, combining high‐level electronic‐structure data with nuclear‐motion solutions and refinement

High‐Pressure Carbonaceous Phases as Minerals

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 11-23., 2020

This book is Open Access. A digital copy can be downloaded for free from Wiley Online Library.

Explores the behavior of carbon in minerals, melts, and fluids under extreme conditions

Carbon trapped in diamonds and carbonate-bearing rocks in subduction zones are examples of the continuing exchange of substantial carbon ...

Dust evolution, a global view: III. Core/mantle grains, organic nano-globules, comets and surface chemistry [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2016
Within the framework of The Heterogeneous dust Evolution Model for Interstellar Solids (THEMIS), this work explores the surface processes and chemistry relating to core/mantle interstellar and cometary grain structures and their influence on the nature ...

Diffuse Interstellar Bands – The Unidentified Part of the Interstellar Absorption Spectrum [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1989
The unidentified (since 1921) diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) are discussed together with their relations to other interstellar absorptions sucn as: continuous extinction, polarization and atomic or molecular absorption lines. It is shown that DIBs do not form the absorption spectrum of one agent, but probably of several (3 or more).

CO TO H2 RATIO OF INTERSTELLAR MOLECULAR CLOUDS IN THE DIRECTIONS OF EARLY TYPE STARS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2004
We present measurements of interstellar CO absorption lines in the spectra of 7 early-type stars that were observed with the FUSE(Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer).

Interstellar Matter Structure along the Line of Sight to Cyg X-1

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2015
High-resolution spectra (R = 60 000) of Cyg X-1 = V1357 Cyg obtained with the NES echelle spectrograph of the Russian 6 meter telescope (3950–6690 Å) were used to study narrow interstellar absorption lines.

Electronically Excited States of Closed-Shell, Cyano-Functionalized Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Anions

open access: yesChemistry, 2021
Few anions exhibit electronically excited states, and, if they do, the one or two possible excitations typically transpire beyond the visible spectrum into the near-infrared.

δ Orionis: Further temporal variability and evidence for small-scale structure in the interstellar medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We report here the detection of both spatial and temporal variations in interstellar absorption in the line of sight to δ Orionis. First, we present new high-resolution (R≈110 000) observations of the interstellar D lines of Na i towards both δ Ori A and
