Atomistic Modeling of Methyl Formate and Glycolaldehyde Formation on Interstellar Dirty Ice Mantles via a "Radical + Ice" Mechanism. [PDF]
The presence of interstellar complex organic molecules (COMs) has been baffling astrochemists for a long time. Methyl formate and glycolaldehyde are widely detected but their abundances mismatch kinetic astrochemical model predictions. Here, the formation of these two COMs is characterized onto a mixed ice surface, highlighting the importance of ...

High‐Pressure Carbonaceous Phases as Minerals
This book is Open Access. A digital copy can be downloaded for free from Wiley Online Library.
Explores the behavior of carbon in minerals, melts, and fluids under extreme conditions
Carbon trapped in diamonds and carbonate-bearing rocks in subduction zones are examples of the continuing exchange of substantial carbon ...

Ubiquitous argonium (ArH+) in the diffuse interstellar medium: A molecular tracer of almost purely atomic gas [PDF]
We describe the assignment of a previously unidentified interstellar absorption line to ArH$^+$ and discuss its relevance in the context of hydride absorption in diffuse gas with a low H$_2$ fraction. The column densities along several lines of sight are determined and discussd in the framework of chemical models.

Star Formation in Atomic Gas [PDF]
Observations of nearby galaxies have firmly established, over a broad range of galactic environments and metallicities, that star formation occurs exclusively in the molecular phase of the interstellar medium (ISM).

VERTICO and IllustrisTNG: The Spatially Resolved Effects of Environment on Galactic Gas
It has been shown in previous publications that the TNG100 simulation quantitatively reproduces the observed reduction in each of the total atomic and total molecular hydrogen gas for galaxies within massive halos, i.e., dense environments.

Atomic and molecular gas in interstellar cirrus clouds
The dust, atomic gas, and molecular gas content of a sample of 26 of isolated, degree-sized infrared clouds are compared. Half of the clouds have an infrared excess indicating the presence of H2, and 14 contain compact CO-emitting regions. Complete, high angular resolution H I and CO maps of one cloud, G236+39, resolve the transition between atomic and

How to search for mirror stars with Gaia
We show for the first time how to conduct a direct search for dark matter using Gaia observations. Its public astrometric data may contain the signals of mirror stars, exotic compact objects made of atomic dark matter with a tiny kinetic mixing between ...

On the structure of the turbulent interstellar atomic hydrogen [PDF]
Aims. It is necessary to understand the dynamics of atomic gas to use complex modeling and to carry out detailed comparisons between theoretical models and observations. Methods. In a companion paper, we present high resolution bidimensional numerical simulations of the interstellar atomic hydrogen.
