Interstellar Dust Grain Alignment

Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2015
Interstellar polarization at optical-to-infrared wavelengths is known to arise from asymmetric dust grains aligned with the magnetic field. This effect provides a potentially powerful probe of magnetic field structure and strength if the details of the grain alignment can be reliably understood.

Interstellar Dust and Diamonds

Nature, 1969
Saslaw and Gaustad1 have recently suggested that interstellar dust may consist of small diamond particles. This suggestion can be verified if the optical properties of such particles can be determined. The optical constants of bulk diamond have been measured by Phillipp and Taft2 over the entire waveband of astronomical interest, ∼2 micron–1000 A.

Interstellar Dust Grains

2012
This chapter discusses the interstellar grains, including the effects of extinction, polarization, and energy emission in the infrared spectrum. An overview of Mie’s theory is given, and the chapter ends with a discussion of the physical properties of the interstellar grains.

Interstellar Dust and Circumstellar Dust Disks

2001
Interstellar dust research belongs to the young branches of astrophysics. With the establishment of sensitive observational techniques in the astronomical infrared spectroscopy in the 1960s, diagnostic circumstellar and interstellar dust bands were detected and induced an explosive development of the whole field.
