This work is dedicated to the study of interstellar medium (ISM) along the line of sight (LOS) of the transient low-mass X-ray binary, MXB 1659-298, capitalizing the high resolving power of XMM-Newton in the soft energy range.

Ultraviolet interstellar absorption lines in the LMC: Searching for hidden SNRs
Strong x-ray emission detected in Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) superbubbles has been explained as the result of interior supernova remnants (SNRs) hitting the dense superbubble shell. Such SNRs cannot be found using conventional criteria. We thus investigate the possibility of using the interstellar absorption properties in the ultraviolet (UV) as a ...

Krelowski et al. have reported a weak, diffuse interstellar band (DIB) at 5069 angstrom which appears to match in both mid-wavelength and width the A(2)Pi(u)-X(2)Pi(g) gas-phase origin absorption band of HC(4)H(+).

Optical interstellar absorption lines toward 29 stars
Observations of optical interstellar absorption lines of Ti II, Ca II, and/or Na I acquired at an instrumental resolution typically of 5.6 km/s are reported for 29 stars. The data were recorded primarily with a Digicon detector and achieve 2 sigma detection limits generally near an equivalent width of 1 mA.

oMEGACat. VII. Tracing Interstellar and Intracluster Medium of ω Centauri Using Sodium Absorptions
We investigate the foreground interstellar medium along the line of sight and intracluster medium of ω Centauri ( ω Cen) by measuring the equivalent width of Na I D absorptions from MUSE observations. The large line-of-sight velocity difference between ω

Direct Measurement of Interstellar Extinction toward Young Stars Using Atomic Hydrogen Lyα Absorption [PDF]
Interstellar reddening corrections are necessary to reconstruct the intrinsic spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of accreting protostellar systems.

Spatially resolved spectroscopy of faint star-forming galaxies & their environments in the high redshift universe [PDF]
This thesis is concerned with the spectroscopic observations of distant galaxies, 1 < z < 5. The galaxies presented here are intrinsically faint such that their ux is dominated by ordinary star formation rather than galaxy-galaxy merging and/or ...

Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopy of the Intergalactic and Interstellar Absorption Toward 3C 273
We present Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer observations of the molecular, neutral atomic, weakly ionized, and highly ionized components of the interstellar and intergalactic material toward the quasar 3C273. We identify Ly-beta absorption in eight
