Dust extinction is one of the fundamental measurements of dust grain sizes, compositions, and shapes. Most of the wavelength-dependent variations seen in Milky Way extinction are strongly correlated with the single parameter R ( V ) = A ( V )/ E ( B − V )

SpeX Near-infrared Spectroscopic Extinction Curves in the Milky Way
Interstellar dust extinction curves provide valuable information about dust properties, including the composition and size of the dust grains, and are essential to correct observations for the effects of interstellar dust.

Analysis of Interstellar Extinction towards the Hypergiant Cyg OB2 No. 12
The Cyg OB2 stellar association hosts an entire zoo of unique objects, and among them – an enigmatic star Cyg OB2 No. 12 (Schulte 12, MT 304). MT 304 is enigmatic not only due to its highest luminosity (according to various estimates, it is one of the ...

Luminosity class of the symbiotic stars 4U1954+319 and ZZ CMi [PDF]
We performed optical photometry and spectral observations of the symbiotic stars 4U1954+319 and ZZ CMi. For 4U1954+319, using high-resolution spectra, we, measure the equivalent widths of diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) and estimate the interstellar ...

Diverse reddening distributions in sight lines for type Ia supernovae
Context. Accurate cosmological constraints from type Ia supernovae (SNe) require sufficiently accurate corrections for host-galaxy extinction. Modelling these corrections is challenged by the problem of disentangling the SN’s intrinsic colours from host ...

PLATO as it is: A legacy mission for Galactic archaeology
Deciphering the assembly history of the Milky Way is a formidable task, which becomes possible only if one can produce high‐resolution chrono‐chemo‐kinematical maps of the Galaxy. Data from large‐scale astrometric and spectroscopic surveys will soon provide us with a well‐defined view of the current chemo‐kinematical structure of the Milky Way, but it ...

UGC 7639: A Dwarf Galaxy in the Canes Venatici I Cloud
We want to get insight into the formation mechanism and the evolution of UGC 7639, a dwarf galaxy in the Canes Venatici I Cloud (CVnIC). We used archival multiwavelength data to constrain its global properties. Ultraviolet images show that UGC 7639 inner regions are composed mostly by young stellar populations.

ULTRA FAST EVOLUTION OF SAKURAI's OBJECT
We model theoretical spectral energy distributions of the "born-again" V4334 Sgr for our grid of hydrogen-deficient model atmospheres with a range of Teff = 4000-5000 K and log g = 1.0 - 0.0.
