UGC 7639: A Dwarf Galaxy in the Canes Venatici I Cloud

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
We want to get insight into the formation mechanism and the evolution of UGC 7639, a dwarf galaxy in the Canes Venatici I Cloud (CVnIC). We used archival multiwavelength data to constrain its global properties. Ultraviolet images show that UGC 7639 inner regions are composed mostly by young stellar populations.

A search for diffuse bands in the circumstellar envelopes of post-AGB stars

open access: yes, 2007
In this work we present the results of a systematic search for diffuse bands (DBs, hereafter) in the circumstellar envelopes of a carefully selected sample of post-AGB stars.

The Natural Science Underlying Big History

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Nature’s many varied complex systems—including galaxies, stars, planets, life, and society—are islands of order within the increasingly disordered Universe. All organized systems are subject to physical, biological, or cultural evolution, which together comprise the grander interdisciplinary subject of cosmic evolution.

ULTRA FAST EVOLUTION OF SAKURAI's OBJECT

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2017
We model theoretical spectral energy distributions of the "born-again" V4334 Sgr for our grid of hydrogen-deficient model atmospheres with a range of Teff = 4000-5000 K and log g = 1.0 - 0.0.

The Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment. Is Interstellar Extinction Toward the Galactic Center Anomalous?

open access: yes, 2002
Photometry of the Galactic bulge, collected during the OGLE-II microlensing search, indicates high and non-uniform interstellar extinction toward the observed fields.

CCD SDSS gr Photometry of Poorly Studied Star Clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
We present for the first time CCD SDSS gr photometry, obtained at the Gemini South telescope with the GMOS attached, of stars in the field of the poorly studied star clusters NGC1768, HS 85, SL 676, NGC2107, NGC2190, and SL 866, which are distributed in the main body of the Large Magellanic Cloud.

Reddening law and interstellar dust properties along Magellanic sight-lines

open access: yes, 2007
This study establishes that SMC, LMC and Milky Way extinction curves obey the same extinction law which depends on the 2200A bump size and one parameter, and generalizes the Cardelli, Clayton and Mathis (1989) relationship.

The Mira-based distance to the Galactic centre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mira variables are useful distance indicators, due to their high luminosities and well-defined period-luminosity relation. We select 1863 Miras from SAAO and MACHO observations to examine their use as distance estimators in the Milky Way.

The Study of Nebular Emission on Nearby Spiral Galaxies in the IFU Era

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
A new generation of wide‐field emission‐line surveys based on integral field units (IFU) is allowing us to obtain spatially resolved information of the gas‐phase emission in nearby late‐type galaxies, based on large samples of HII regions and full two‐dimensional coverage.

An Ultraviolet Study of Star-Forming Regions in M31

open access: yes, 2009
We present a comprehensive study of star-forming (SF) regions in the nearest large spiral galaxy M31. We use GALEX far-UV (1344-1786 \AA, FUV) and near-UV (1771-2831 \AA, NUV) imaging to detect young massive stars and trace the recent star formation ...
