Pitch-angle Focusing and Scattering of TeV Galactic Cosmic Rays Propagating in Local Interstellar Magnetic Fields

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We use Tibet AS γ anisotropy data for 4 TeV cosmic rays to investigate the properties of the pitch-angle focusing and diffusion caused by the interstellar magnetic field and turbulence.

Modeling the Optical Colors of Galactic Cirrus Clouds in the Stripe 82 Region

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Observations have shown that the optical colors of Galactic cirrus clouds differ significantly from those of extragalactic sources; thus, they can be used to distinguish Galactic cirrus from extragalactic low surface brightness (LSB) features.

Optical polarimetry of the accreting black hole X-ray binary Swift J1727.8−1613 over the state transition and radio ejections

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We present the first optical (BVR) polarimetric observations of Swift J1727.8−1613 during its 2023–2024 outburst. Observations were performed during the X-ray hard-to-soft state transition, the soft state, and the decaying hard state of the source.

Scattering of Continuously Injected Pickup Ions of Oblique Pickup Angles in the Outer Heliosheath

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Pitch angle scattering of pickup ions (PUIs) in the outer heliosheath is studied using two-dimensional hybrid simulations, with the PUIs continuously injected at specified injection rates and pickup angles.

A Multilayer Perceptron to Extend and Improve Diatomic Molecule Collision Rate Coefficients

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A data-driven approach to improve the accuracy of state-resolved molecular collision data for the relaxation of vibrationally and rotationally excited molecules is developed.

Pulsar scattering and the ionized interstellar medium

open access: yes, 2017
Fifty years after the discovery of the first pulsating neutron star, the field of pulsar science has grown into a multidisciplinary research field, working to address a wide range of problems in astrophysics -- from stellar evolution models to high precision tests of General Relativity to analysing the detailed structure of the Interstellar Medium in ...

The WIRC+Pol Brown Dwarf Survey: A J-band Polarimetric Survey of 22 Brown Dwarfs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a near-infrared spectropolarimetric survey of brown dwarfs conducted with the WIRC+Pol instrument on the Palomar 200 inch Hale Telescope. The primary survey goal was to investigate the presence of polarization signatures arising from cloudy ...
