Interstellar scattering as a cosmological probe

2011 XXXth URSI General Assembly and Scientific Symposium, 2011
Since the discovery that the flux densities of very compact astrophysical sources are modulated by scattering in the inhomogeneous, ionized interstellar medium (ISM) of our own Galaxy through a phenomenon known as Interstellar Scintillation (ISS), these scattering effects have been used with great success as a tool to probe the physics of the ISM and ...

Interstellar Scattering and Scintillation of Radio Waves

Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1977
A review is presented of interstellar scattering and scintillation observations in the light of modern theory for extended, spatially homogeneous, power law inhomogenieties. Formulas are presented for the experimentally observable quantities and are compared with data. A general discussion of the model is given. (GHT)
