The appearance of gas shadows in joints under certain conditions is well known. Young children whose laxity of the joint ligaments allows wide separation of the articular surfaces are especially prone to accumulate gas in the joint space when the joint is placed under strain.

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice, 1992
This article describes the functional anatomy of intervertebral discs and their relationship to the vertebrae and spinal cord. The pathologic events and clinical complications of intervertebral disc disease are described. A discussion of proper staging of disc disease and appropriate conservative management of degenerative disc disease is included.

Imaging Intervertebral Disc Degeneration
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, 2006Magnetic resonance imaging provides excellent anatomic detail of spinal tissues, but fails to provide the type of information that permits a definitive diagnosis in many patients with back pain. New imaging strategies that can be applied to the study of intervertebral disc degeneration include diffusion-weighted imaging, magnetic resonance imaging ...

Modeling of Intervertebral Discs
Spine, 1980A model with rotational symmetry of an intervertebral disc is studied. The nucleus pulposus is assumed to consist of an incompressible fluid, and the annulus fibrosus is modeled by 11 fiber layers with alternating fiber inclination. The spaces between the fiber layers are assumed to be filled with an incompressible fluid.

THORACIC INTERVERTEBRAL DISC HERNIATION
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 1975Twelve men and 8 women, aged 15-73 years, were operated upon for herniated thoracic intervertebral disc during the years 1946 to 1972. The average duration of the symptoms was 14-15 months (range 4 days to 5 years). The most common symptom was back pain, with disturbances of sensibility or loss of power in one or both legs. On admission 13 patients had

Childhood intervertebral disc calcification
Child's Nervous System, 1993Two cases of intervertebral disc calcification in children are reported. A 13-year-old boy presented with right subscapular pain radiating into the axilla with radiographic demonstration of multiple calcified intervertebral discs and a herniated fragment of calcified nucleus pulposus at T2-3. His condition improved with conservative therapy, and follow-

Cervical Intervertebral Disc Replacement
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, 2013Symptomatic adjacent-level disease after cervical fusion has led to the development and testing of several disc-replacement prostheses. Randomized controlled trials of cervical disc replacement (CDR) compared with anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) have demonstrated at least equivalent clinical results for CDR with similar or lower ...

Postoperative intervertebral disc space infection
Neurosurgery, 1983Abstract Intervertebral disc space infection is an uncommon, but serious, complication of disc surgery. By a retrospective chart review, we identified 27 patients at our institution who had a postoperative disc space infection; 14 were diagnosed and treated within the last 5 years.
