Chronic sequelae and owner burdens are common following canine intervertebral disc disease
Abstract Background Canine intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) is common and may be managed conservatively or surgically. However, little is known about long‐term sequelae, quality of life and owners’ emotional burden after diagnosis. Methods Information regarding signalment, neuroanatomical lesion localisation, diagnostic imaging results and treatment ...

Self-Supervised Learning for Spinal MRIs [PDF]
A significant proportion of patients scanned in a clinical setting have follow-up scans. We show in this work that such longitudinal scans alone can be used as a form of 'free' self-supervision for training a deep network. We demonstrate this self-supervised learning for the case of T2-weighted sagittal lumbar Magnetic Resonance Images (MRIs).

Peyronie's disease (PD) is a common male reproductive system disorder. The exact etiology of PD remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate molecular and cellular changes in PD using single‐cell spatial transcriptomics. Abstract Peyronie's disease (PD), commonly known as penile induration, is a prevalent male reproductive system disorder with ...

Background/Objective: Asporin is associated with osteoarthritis and lumbar disk degeneration. Previous studies in chondrocytes showed that asporin can bind to transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and downregulate matrix biosynthesis.

Holistic Decomposition Convolution for Effective Semantic Segmentation of 3D MR Images [PDF]
Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have achieved state-of-the-art performance in many different 2D medical image analysis tasks. In clinical practice, however, a large part of the medical imaging data available is in 3D. This has motivated the development of 3D CNNs for volumetric image segmentation in order to benefit from more spatial context.

Long-term creep behavior of the intervertebral disk: comparison between bioreactor data and numerical results [PDF]
The loaded disk culture system is an intervertebral disk (IVD)-oriented bioreactor developed by the VU Medical Center (VUmc, Amsterdam, The Netherlands), which has the capacity of maintaining up to 12 IVDs in culture, for approximately 3 weeks after ...

Gastric dilatation secondary to incarceration through a gastrosplenic omental rent in a dog
Abstract A 2‐year‐old, entire, female Dogue de Bordeaux presented with inappetence and abdominal distension. Radiographs revealed gastric dilatation and malpositioning. Given the absence of classical signs of gastric dilatation and volvulus, a medical approach was elected. After 24 hours, the dog's condition deteriorated.

This study identifies BRD4 as a key regulator in intervertebral disk degeneration (IDD), linking its upregulation to NP cell senescence and disrupted ECM metabolism through the BRD4/MAP2K7/PGF signaling cascade, offering a potential therapeutic target for IDD treatment.
