Anisakiasis and intestinal endometriosis: under-recognized conditions in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen.

open access: yesRevista Espanola de Enfermedades Digestivas, 2017
Anisakiasis and endometriosis is rare cause of intestinal obstruction and even perforation, the latter being extremely rare. We report the case of a patient with intestinal obstruction that progress to perforation and whose differential diagnosis is ...

Adhesive Intestinal Obstruction Caused by Extragastrointestinal Anisakiasis [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2015
A 44-year-old Japanese woman with no history of laparotomy presented with intermittent abdominal pain that had begun 10 hours earlier. Epigastric tenderness with no muscle guarding was observed. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed a dilated upper small intestine and a band near the stenosis (Figure 1).

Anisakis Nematodes in Fish and Shellfish- from infection to allergies

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2019
Anisakidosis is a zoonotic parasitosis induced by members of the family Anisakidae. The anisakid genera includes Anisakis, Pseudoterranova, Hysterothylacium and Contracaecum. The final definitive hosts of these nematodes are marine mammals with a complex

Intestinal localization of anisakiasis manifested as acute abdomen [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Microbiology and Infection, 2003
Anisakis pathology is due mainly to two mechanisms: allergic reactions (from isolated urticaria and angioedema to life-threatening anaphylactic shock associated with gastrointestinal symptoms or 'gastroallergic anisakiasis'), and direct tissue damage, due to invasion of the gut wall, development of eosinophilic granuloma, or perforation (gastric or ...

The Battle of Helminths Deep: Molecular Insights Into Oegopsid Squid Parasites in Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 53, Issue 2, June 2026.
Cephalopods play crucial roles in marine ecosystems due to their diverse and indispensable contributions to trophic webs. However, parasitological research on cephalopods remains limited in Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ), despite the commercial significance of certain squid species and the zoonotic potential of the parasites within them. This study aimed to

Human anisakiasis in Italy: a retrospective epidemiological study over two decades

open access: yesParasite, 2018
A retrospective analysis on human anisakiasis in Italy since its first description in 1996 was performed by conducting a literature search. Inclusion criteria based on the presence of a larva and on parasite identification were applied.

Evolution of Animal Parasitism in Nematodes of the Suborder Spirurina

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study reconstructs the evolutionary history of parasitism in Spirurina by integrating ancestral state reconstruction (ASR) with a comprehensive phylogenetic framework. Our analyses reveal clear patterns of hostswitching and major transitions in host associations, providing the first broad evolutionary perspective on parasitism within this group ...

Marine Parasites as Bioindicators for Toxins and Their Potential Role as Environmental Sinks for Marine Fauna

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Researches are being frequently conducted on the utility aspects of helminth parasites worldwide. The evolution is driven by the need for survival against the toxicity of biometals that emerged in zoonotic roundworms of Anisakidae. Aims This study is aimed at investigating whether the sequestration of biometals from the environment into the ...

Anisakis simplex products impair intestinal epithelial barrier function and occludin and zonula occludens-1 localisation in differentiated Caco-2 cells.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2020
BACKGROUND:Anisakis spp. are nematode parasites found in a wide range of marine organisms. Human beings may accidentally become infected, showing the symptoms of anisakiasis and allergic responses.

A SURGICAL CASE OF INTESTINAL ANISAKIASIS

open access: yesNihon Rinsho Geka Gakkai Zasshi (Journal of Japan Surgical Association), 2003
