Inflammasomes of the intestinal epithelium
Trends in Immunology, 2015While the functional importance of inflammasomes in blood-derived cell types is well established, it remains poorly understood how inflammasomes in nonhematopoietic cells contribute to mucosal immunity. Recent studies have revealed functional roles of inflammasomes - particularly NAIP/NLRC4, NLRP6, and noncanonical caspase-4 (caspase-11) - within ...

Lineage Tracing in the Intestinal Epithelium
Current Protocols in Stem Cell Biology, 2010AbstractThis unit describes the theory and detailed protocols for performing in vivo lineage tracing from Lgr5+ve intestinal stem cells using an Lgr5‐EGFP‐ires‐CreERT2/Rosa26lacZ mouse model. Lineage tracing can be initiated in mice at any age by administering limiting doses of the hormone tamoxifen. This activates the lacZ reporter gene in the Lgr5+ve

Intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes preferentially repopulate the intestinal epithelium
International Immunology, 1993We have used C.B-17 severe combined immune deficiency (SCID) mice to study the repopulation of intestinal intraepithelial cells in these mice. We have found that intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) injected into SCID mice preferentially repopulate the intestinal epithelium.

Stem cells of small intestinal epithelium
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2008Intestinal epithelium is a rapidly proliferating tissue and represents a unique model for the study of somatic stem cells. Here we summarized the data about markers, main properties, and methods of isolation of intestinal epithelial cells. Some aspects of molecular biology of the intestine are also discussed.

Intestinal epithelial organoids: regeneration and maintenance of the intestinal epithelium
Current Opinion in Genetics & Development, 2022Vital functions of the intestines: digestion, absorption, and surface barrier are performed by the intestinal epithelium, which consists of various differentiated cells and intestinal stem cells. Recent technological advances in sequencing technology, including single-cell transcriptomics and epigenetic analysis, have facilitated the genetic ...

DNA synthesis in irradiated intestinal epithelium
Experimental Cell Research, 1960Abstract 1. 1. DNA synthesis in the intestinal epithelium of X-irradiated mice was studied by means of autoradiography following labeling with tritiated thymidine. Radiation doses used varied from 200 to 3000 rads whole-body irradiation. The label was administered once or 5 times, at times ranging from one day before to 3 days after irradiation ...

Intestinal phenotypes in pediatric gallbladder epithelium
Human Pathology, 2011The aim of this study was to characterize the physiologic expression of "intestinal" features in gallbladders of infants and children. The study group consisted of 56 pediatric (age, 2 weeks to 7 years) and 15 adult (15-25 years) patients who underwent incidental cholecystectomy during surgery for other lesions.

Amino Acid Absorption through Intestinal Epithelium
Protoplasma, 1967The main problems of amino acid transfer through the intestinal epithelium are the following: 1. the movement of hydrophilic substances through a lipid barrier, 2. the high degree of specificity which is involved in this process, and 3.

Glucose metabolism in intestinal epithelium
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1981Abstract 1. 1. Metabolism of d -glucose in the epithelial cell of the rat intestine has been studied with intestinal rings. 2. 2. From study of the relative lability of tritium in positions 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 of glucose as compared with the metabolism of d -[U-14C]glucose,evidence has been obtained which is consistent with the following: 3.
