Abstract Bantu languages have a wide range of prosodic systems, from the notoriously complex tonal system of Dschang Bamileke to the non-tonal system of Swahili. This prompts us to ask what constitutes ‘intonation’ in such a broad linguistic spectrum, and what can we learn about its nature from these different languages?
