Intra-frame coding with recursive intra prediction and adapted block transforms

Conventional intra-frame coding is performed in two steps. First, a block of pixels are predicted by copying previously reconstructed neighbor pixels of the block along an angular direction inside the block. Hybrid angular intra/template matching prediction for HEVC intra coding

In the latest HEVC video coding standard, angular intra prediction (AIP) applies 35 modes including 33 angular modes which can handle blocks with direction information well, and other 2 modes (DC and planar) which are used to predict smooth blocks. This paper proposes an efficient intra-mode coding method using the deviation of neighbor pixels. In HEVC, the number of intra-prediction modes is increased in order to improve coding performance for intra-prediction as compared to H.264/AVC. Error concealment of intra coded video frames.

In this paper, we propose a procedure to recover lost slices in intra-coded H.264/AVC video frames. The procedure recovers missing pixels by exploiting only the video frame spatial redundancy, with no reference to past frames. This situation is interesting in correspondence to scene changes.
