Targeting Intracellular Targets

Current Drug Delivery, 2004
Many therapeutic agents have intracellular compartments as their site of action. Targeted delivery of these agents to their specific intracellular targets could result in enhanced therapeutic efficacy and reduced toxicity. Various carriers have been shown useful in targeted delivery of different classes of therapeutic agents.

Intracellular DNA recognition

Nature Reviews Immunology, 2010
The recognition of nucleic acids is one strategy by which cells can detect infectious agents. As life is ultimately determined by the existence of nucleic acids, this defence strategy has evolved in many different organisms and operates effectively in many different cell types.

Intracellular osmotic action

Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2000
Water often acts as a critical reactant in cellular reactions. Its role can be detected by modulating water activity with osmotic agents. We describe the principles behind this 'osmotic stress' strategy, and survey the ubiquity of water effects on molecular structures that have aqueous, solute-excluding regions.

INTRACELLULAR ANTIBODIES

2001
A method of identifying at least one consensus sequence for an intracellular antibody (ICS) comprising the steps of: creating a database comprising sequences of validated intracellular antibodies (VIDA database) and aligning the sequences of validated intracellular antibodies according to Kabat; determining the frequency with which a particular amino ...

Intracellular membrane fusion

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1991
Protein trafficking and membrane assembly are accomplished in eukaryotes by the specific targeting and fusion of vesicles. In this review we describe some of the molecules implicated as components of the fusion apparatus, and evidence that suggests the same factors are recruited for a variety of intracellular fusion events.

Intracellular sterol trafficking

Experientia, 1990
Sterols are acquired by cells either biosynthetically by the interaction of cytoplasmic and endoplasmic reticulum elements, or by endocytosis. The subcellular distribution of sterols, however, argues that sterols are trafficked quickly from sites of acquisition to target membranes, particularly the plasma membrane.

Intracellular membrane fusion

Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 1989
One of the most intriguing properties of cellular membranes is their ability to fuse with one another. Within a living cell numerous membrane fusion and fission events occur, mediating the flow of cellular constituents between different cell organelles. How do two adhering membranes achieve this complex merging operation within the restriction posed by
