Intracortical microstimulation of human somatosensory cortex
Science Translational Medicine, 2016Tactile percepts were consistently elicited in the hand of a person with cervical spinal cord injury using intracortical microstimulation of the somatosensory cortex.

Intracortical Microstimulation of Bilateral Frontal Eye Field
Journal of Neurophysiology, 1998Fujii, Naotaka, Hajime Mushiake, and Jun Tanji. Intracortical microstimulation of bilateral frontal eye field. J. Neurophysiol. 79: 2240–2244, 1998. We trained two monkeys to perform a fixation task. Intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) was applied to the monkey frontal eye field (FEF) while monkeys were fixating on one of five fixation LEDs.

Ultrasonically-assisted intracortical microstimulation of the rat
The 26th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2005High frequency tone bursts of ultrasound are capable of increasing the sensitivity of rat motor cortex to electrical stimulation. In this study, 11.75 MHz ultrasound pre-stimuli were delivered to the forelimb motor region of the rat cortex followed by an electrical pulse train to assess changes in cortical activation. The temporal peak intensity of the

Layer-specific parameters of intracortical microstimulation of the somatosensory cortex
Journal of Neural Engineering, 2021Abstract Objective. Intracortical microstimulation of the primary somatosensory cortex (S1) has shown great progress in restoring touch sensations to patients with paralysis. Stimulation parameters such as amplitude, phase duration, and frequency can influence the quality of the evoked percept as well as the amount of ...

High‐voltage compliant microelectrode array drivers for intracortical microstimulation
International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications, 2015SummaryWe present in this paper two low‐power high‐impedance microelectrode array drivers (MEDs) dedicated for visual intracortical microstimulation. These output stages of a new microstimulator are highly configurable and able to deliver higher compliance voltage (20 V for anodic and cathodic phases) across microelectrode‐tissue interface impedance ...

Excitation of visual cortex neurons by local intracortical microstimulation
Experimental Neurology, 1983The threshold current required for the excitation of visual cortex neurons in the vicinity (approximately 1 mm) of an intracortical stimulating electrode was measured as a function of the stimulus pulse duration in the anesthetized cat. For cortical neurons with latencies of activation from 0.4 to 3.4 ms and for stimulus pulse durations from 0.02 to 0 ...

In an effort to assess the safety and efficacy of focal intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) of cerebral cortex with an array of penetrating electrodes as might be applied to a neuroprosthetic device to aid the deaf or blind, we have chronically implanted three trained cats in primary auditory cortex with the 100-electrode Utah Intracortical Electrode

2021 43rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2021
Advances in brain-machine interfaces have helped restore function and independence for individuals with sensorimotor deficits; however, providing efficient and effective sensory feedback remains challenging. Intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) of sensorimotor brain regions is a promising technique for providing bioinspired sensory feedback.

Detection psychophysics of intracortical microstimulation in rat primary somatosensory cortex
European Journal of Neuroscience, 2007AbstractA problem of purposeful intracortical microstimulation is the long duration of neuronal integration time and the associated complex temporal interactions of effects to individual pulses in trains. Here we investigated the effects of repetitive stimuli on perception.

A reappraisal of rat motor cortex organization by intracortical microstimulation
Brain Research, 1985The organization of the motor cortex was reinvestigated with intracortical microstimulation, in light-anaesthetized (ketamine) rats. A posterolateral (PL) vibrissae area was found in addition to the rostral one, and blinks of the contralateral eyelids were elicited from a part of this PL area.
