Republished: Intracranial pellet embolization: an endovascular endeavor

Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, 2020
A 44-year-old man was referred to the neurointerventionalist 6 hours after sustaining a shotgun wound to the left chest, shoulder, and neck from 4 feet away. Physical examination of the chest showed a 5 cm × 5 cm gunshot entry wound on the anterior-superior aspect of the chest involving the supraclavicular and infraclavicular region, with multiple ...

[Intravascular embolization of intracranial aneurysms].

Neurologia i neurochirurgia polska, 2002
The paper presents indications for and the technique of the intravascular procedures as well as the results of treating patients with intracranial aneurysms.Between 1997 and the May 2000, 25 patients (14 women and 11 men) with cerebral aneurysms underwent intravascular embolisation. The aneurysms were embolised with MDS-N BALT with coils. In 5 patients

Intracranial Embolization Procedures

2009
Intracranial embolization procedures are therapeutic endovascular occlusions of vessels involved in vascular lesions of the cerebral circulation. One can imagine more catchy phrases to describe the procedure such as “intentional cerebral embolism” (ICE), but common parlance uses the less colorful and more awkward “intracranial embolization procedure ...

Guglielmi detachable coil embolization of intracranial aneurysms

Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, 1997
Today, the Guglielmi Detachable Coil (GDC) technique is the primary endovascular modality used for the endovascular occlusion of intracranial aneurysms carrying a high surgical risk of morbidity and mortality. 1,2 Balloon embolization of aneurysms is only used in those cases requiring parent artery occlusion such as in giant skull base and ...

Distal embolization during intracranial carotid artery stenting

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2008
AbstractIntracranial stenting, with or without balloon angioplasty, has emerged as an effective alternative to medical therapy for intracranial atherosclerosis. However, this strategy appears to involve the potential risk of distal embolization, which may lead to disability and death. Here, the authors have described a successful case of distal balloon‐

Embolic Intracranial Strokes: Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis

2013
In the setting of acute ischemic stroke, an intra-arterial (IA) pharmacological approach allows catheter-directed delivery of thrombolytic agents to the clot, offering several potential advantages by comparison with systemic (intravenous, IV) thrombolysis.

Preoperative embolization of intracranial meningiomas.

AJNR. American journal of neuroradiology, 1986
The goal of preoperative embolization of intracranial meningiomas is to facilitate their surgical removal by reducing tumor vascularity and decreasing blood loss during surgery. This study is based on personal experience with about 100 embolized meningiomas and on the experience of others. Embolization is performed during the same session as diagnostic
