Traumatic embolization of the intracranial internal carotid artery

Neuroradiology, 1978
A 3 mm pellet, shot into the neck of a 13 year old boy, migrated into the common carotid artery and lodged in the infraclinoid internal carotid artery. The case illustrates an unusual intravascular migration of a foreign body. The benign clinical course, radiological evaluation, and rationale for expectant management of such low velocity missle ...

PREOPERATIVE EMBOLIZATION OF INTRACRANIAL ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATIONS WITH ONYX

Neurosurgery, 2007
Preoperative embolization in accordance with multimodal therapies for cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) is generally the first step in treatment and may result in complete obliteration. The Onyx liquid embolic system (Micro Therapeutics, Inc., Irvine, CA) may offer advantages for intranidal targeted embolization and microsurgical resection ...

Safety and Efficacy of Preoperative Embolization of Intracranial Hemangioblastomas

Operative Neurosurgery, 2016
Intracranial hemangioblastomas are highly vascular tumors that account for 1% to 2% of all central nervous system tumors. Preoperative embolization has been proposed to limit the often significant intraoperative blood loss associated with resection and potentially make the tumor more soft/necrotic and thus more amenable to gross total resection.

The Pipeline embolization device for treatment of intracranial aneurysms

Expert Review of Medical Devices, 2014
Flow diversion is a new endovascular technique developed for treatment of intracranial aneurysms. It is based on stent-induced modification of blood flow within and around an aneurysm inflow zone, leading to gradual intra-aneurysmal thrombosis and subsequent atrophy, while preserving flow into the parent vessel and perforating branches.

Preoperative Embolization of Intracranial Meningiomas with Embosphere® Microspheres

min - Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery, 2004
To reduce intraoperative bleeding and to facilitate surgery by inducing tumor softening, a preoperative embolization of meningiomas is commonly recommended. We report on our experience with non-resorbable microspheres (Embosphere) in the preoperative endovascular embolization of 17 intracranial meningiomas.

The role of preoperative embolization for intracranial meningiomas

Journal of Neurosurgery, 2013
Object As endovascular techniques have become more advanced, preoperative embolization has become an increasingly used intervention in the management of meningiomas. To date, however, no consensus has been reached on the use of this technique. To clarify the role of preoperative embolization in the management of meningiomas, the authors conducted a ...

[Preoperative embolization of intracranial meningiomas].

La Radiologia medica, 1984
Embolization of very vascular intracranial meningiomas prior to operation will reduce the loss of blood during the operation. The indications and the technique of preoperative embolization are discussed and 20 cases are presented.

Preoperative embolization of intracranial meningiomas.

AJNR. American journal of neuroradiology, 1986
The goal of preoperative embolization of intracranial meningiomas is to facilitate their surgical removal by reducing tumor vascularity and decreasing blood loss during surgery. This study is based on personal experience with about 100 embolized meningiomas and on the experience of others. Embolization is performed during the same session as diagnostic

[Complications during preoperative embolization in intracranial meningioma].

Minerva anestesiologica, 1992
We report a rare case of meningioma of the parieto-occipital convexity accompanied by hemorrhage in the tumor and in the subdural space that occurred while pre-operative embolization was being applied. The patient, a 48 year old woman, presented sudden headache and, in a few minutes, comatose status and decerebrate rigidity.
