Prognostic value of BAP1 expression in uveal melanoma: a comparative study with histopathological factors in a large Spanish cohort

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
PurposeTo evaluate the prognostic significance of BRCA1-associated protein 1 (BAP1) nuclear expression in enucleated eyes with uveal melanoma (UM), and to compare its predictive value with classical clinicopathological factors in a large Spanish cohort ...

Rare foreign bodies encountered in ophthalmic practice

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ophthalmology and Research, 2021
Ocular trauma and retained foreign bodies in the eye form a common occurrence in ophthalmic practice. Mild trauma may often be overlooked and patients, quite often, present late with serious complications.

Intraocular lymphoma

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ophthalmology, 2017
Intraocular lymphoma (IOL) is a rare lymphocytic malignancy which contains two main distinct forms. Primary intraocular lymphoma (PIOL) is mainly a sub-type of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). Alternatively, IOL can originate from outside the central nervous system (CNS) by metastasizing to the eye.

Modular Control of PEG‐Poly(2‐Oxazoline) Co‐Assembly Enables Tunable Aggregate Properties for Intraocular Pressure Management

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A thermo‐responsive poly(2‐oxazoline)‐based injectable formulation is developed to modulate intraocular pressure (IOP) in both normal and hypotonic eyes. By adjusting the PEG content, the aggregation behavior is finely tuned, enabling IOP elevation without long‐term deposition.

In-vivo sclera thickness measurements in experimental myopia of guinea pigs

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology
The sclera is the target organ of axial elongation during myopia onset and progression. Visualizing the sclera in-vivo is important for monitoring the dynamic changes of the sclera remodeling in experimental myopia.

First-in-human study of the safety and viability of intraocular robotic surgery

open access: yesNature Biomedical Engineering, 2018
Microsurgery of the retina would be dramatically improved by instruments that offer supra-human precision. Here, we report the results of a first-in-human study of remotely controlled robot-assisted retinal surgery performed through a telemanipulation ...

Aptamer‐Based Delivery Systems for VEGF and NGF Modulation in Ocular Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Aptamer‐based delivery systems targeting NGF and VEGF hold significant potential for precise and sustained treatment of complex diseases affecting both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. This review critically summarizes current strategies for NGF and VEGF delivery as well as VEGF sequestration, providing a clinical perspective on how ...

Long‐Term Hydrophilic, Anti‐Clotting, and Anti‐Fibrotic Dynamic Covalent Silicone‐Based Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic covalent crosslinking of a Schiff‐base silicone elastomer with hydrazide‐functionalized polymers is demonstrated to improve the long‐term hydrophilicity as well as the anti‐fouling and anti‐clotting properties of PDMS implants. The hydrazone‐functionalized material prevents hydrophobic recovery, resists clotting, and significantly reduces ...
