Intrinsic combustion instability of solid energetic materials

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1995
In the first part, a review is offered of the intrinsic stability of pressure- or radiation-driven burning of solid propellants with chemically inert condensed phase. The two main approaches today available [flame modeling and the Zeldovich-Novozhilov (ZN) method] are both considered.

Intrinsic Instabilities in Homogeneously Broadened Lasers

Topical Meeting on Optical Bistability, 1983
Experimental observation has shown that it is no simple matter to make a homogeneously broadened laser operate in a single longitudinal mode. However, elementary theoretical treatments of homogeneously broadening predict that such lasers can operate in only a single mode, because all of the atoms constituting the gain medium experience identical ...

Intrinsic instability of flame–acoustic coupling

Combustion and Flame, 2014
This paper shows that a flame can be an intrinsically unstable acoustic element. The finding is clarified in the framework of an acoustic network model, where the flame is described by an acoustic scattering matrix. The instability of the flame acoustic coupling is shown to become dominating in the limit of no acoustic reflections.
