Novel Immunotherapeutic Strategies for Invasive Fungal Disease
Current Drug Target -Cardiovascular & Hematological Disorders, 2003Infectious diseases still represent a major cause of mortality in man. Failure of the immune system to eradicate pathogens may result in serious invasive infections. Increasing numbers of immunocompromised patients, ineffective treatment and the emergence of drug-resistant pathogens represent the underlying problems.

Problems in the Diagnosis of Invasive Fungal Diseases
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1991Invasive mycoses are escalating in frequency in contemporary medicine; most dramatic is the rise in the prevalence of opportunistic fungal infections among immunocompromised hosts. Despite increased awareness among physicians and greater mycologic acumen, morbidity and mortality remain substantial.

Diagnosing invasive fungal disease in critically ill patients
Critical Reviews in Microbiology, 2011Fungal infections are increasing, with a changing landscape of pathogens and emergence of new groups at risk for invasive disease. We review current diagnostic techniques, focusing on studies in critically ill patients. Microbiological cultures, the current "gold standard", demonstrate poor sensitivity, thus diagnosis of invasive disease in the ...

Invasive fungal diseases in patients with rheumatic diseases
2020Invasive fungal diseases (IFDs), especially pneumocystosis, cryptococcosis, histoplasmosis, and coccidioidomycosis, are increasingly observed among patients with systemic autoimmune diseases. Such patients are susceptible to the abovementioned IFDs because of their disease-related immunological defects and/or concomitant immunosuppressive therapies ...

Nephrotoxicity in the setting of invasive fungal diseases
Mycoses, 2008SummaryAmphotericin B, a broad spectrum antifungal agent, is widely used despite significant adverse events including nephrotoxicity. Nephrotoxicity occurs frequently in patients receiving amphotericin B. Different definitions for nephrotoxicity are reviewed in the context of outcome in patients with invasive fungal diseases.

New therapeutic options for invasive fungal diseases
Seminars in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, 2001Abstract Invasive fungal infections are increasing in prevalence because of modern support for immunocompromised patients allowing longer survivial times. The risk of fungal infection has also increased because of the use of broad spectrum of antibiotics in this patient population, and the intensity and duration of immunosuppression.

Invasive Fungal Infections in Patients with Chronic Granulomatous Disease
2012Invasive fungal infections are a major threat for chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) patients. The present study provides a comprehensive overview of published invasive fungal infections in the CGD host through an extensive review of epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic data.
