Amphibian chytridiomycosis : a review with focus on fungus-host interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Amphibian declines and extinctions are emblematic for the current sixth mass extinction event. Infectious drivers of these declines include the recently emerged fungal pathogens Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans ...

Integrated Single‐Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics Reveal Cell‐Type‐Specific Immune Regulatory Networks in Maize Responding to Southern Corn Rust

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By integrating single‐nuclei and spatial transcriptomics, this study presents a stereoscopic landscape of maize leaf to Puccinia polysora infection. Epidermal and mesophyll cells initiate primary defenses via RLPs/RLKs and jasmonic acid signaling. Cell‐cell communication analyses further reveal the underlying the dynamics of the underlying immune ...

Fungal infections after liver transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
The risk factors for development of invasive fungal infections after liver transplantation were (1) longer duration of treatment with nonprophylactic IV antibiotics, (2) longer cumulative surgical time and a higher number of laparotomies, (3) an ...

Yin and yang of interleukin-17 in host immunity to infection [version 1; referees: 2 approved] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The interleukin-17 (IL-17) family cytokines, such as IL-17A and IL-17F, play important protective roles in host immune response to a variety of infections such as bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and viral.

Amodiaquine Enhances Anti‐Melanoma Efficacy of Attenuated Salmonella via Targeting Glutathione Reductase in Neutrophils

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that Salmonella VNP20009 recruits pro‐tumor neutrophils that reduce its anticancer efficacy. Combining VNP with amodiaquine selectively eliminates these neutrophils by targeting glutathione reductase. A GR‐shRNA‐loaded VNP strain was further developed, demonstrating an innovative strategy integrating drug repurposing with synthetic ...

A Deep Representation Learning Method for Quantitative Immune Defense Function Evaluation and Its Clinical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ImmuDef, a novel algorithm to quantitatively evaluate the anti‐infection immune defense function of an individual based on RNA‐seq data via a variational autoencoder (VAE) model. It is validated on 3200+ samples across four immune states with high accuracy. It can serve as a metric for disease severity and prognosis across pathogenic cohorts.

Invasive fungal infections in congenital immunodeficiencies [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Microbiology and Infection, 2010
Both acquired and congenital immunodeficiencies may be associated with increased susceptibility to invasive fungal infections (IFIs), depending on the type of immune deficit. IFIs frequently occur in patients with phagocytic and cellular immune defects, but are rarely observed in those with humoral or complement deficits.

Invasive fungal infections in liver transplantation [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2011
Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) in immunocompromised patients, particularly liver transplant recipients, are the subject of increasing clinical attention. Although the overall incidence of fungal infections in liver transplant recipients has declined due to the early treatment of high-risk patients, the overall mortality rate remains high ...
