Refinement of the Facility-Level Medical Technology Score to Reflect Key Disease Response Capacity and Personnel Availability

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine, 2013
This paper presents a second look at the computation of the Medical Technology Score (MTS), a metric designed to convey the relative technical competence of a health facility. Modification of the score to reflect local disease burden is discussed, as are

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Tabu Search Algorithm for Solving a Location-Routing-Inventory Problem

open access: yesSpektrum Industri: Jurnal Ilmiah Pengetahuan dan Penerapan Teknik Industri
Location decisions, inventory control, and vehicle routing are interrelated decisions. Inventory control decisions, such as order lot size and order frequency, affect both inventory and transportation costs.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

A subset of MMR‐proficient colon cancers responds to neoadjuvant immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tan et al. reveal that a distinct subset of early‐stage pMMR colon cancers can respond to neoadjuvant immunotherapy. In the NICHE‐2 trial, responders (26%) were characterized by chromosomal instability, TP53 mutations, and proliferative cell‐cycle programs, whereas nonresponders showed metabolic and stromal reprogramming with TGF‐β‐driven ...

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Model Reference-Based Sliding Mode Control of Supply Chains With Defined Suppliers’ Delivery Capabilities

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper features a novel approach to modelling an inventory management system. The work takes into account a single product warehouse with multiple suppliers. Each supplier delivers its product with a certain lead time.

Impact of Control System Structure and Performance of Inventory Goods Flow System with Long-Variable Delay

open access: yesElektronika ir Elektrotechnika, 2018
In this paper, we use a mathematical model of a inventory system with time-varying delivery delay and three control systems  in order to compare their properties for the goods flow optimization problem in the inventory systems.
