Measurement of the Kinetics and Thermodynamics of the Thermal Degradation for a Flame Retardant Polyurethane-Based Aerogel

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The current work aims to study the thermal degradation of the flame retardant polyurethane aerogel (FR_PU_aerogel) through multiple milligram-scale experimental methods. A systemic methodology for measuring the reaction kinetics and thermodynamics of the

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Optimized Modeling Strategies for the Parametrization of a Two-Parameter Friction Model Through Inverse Modeling of Conical Tube-Upsetting Tests

open access: yesMetals
Friction is a critical influencing factor for a variety of forming processes, as it affects, for example, the required forming force. Complex models for the numerical description of friction often have two or more model parameters but lack appropriate ...

A random forest-regression-based inverse-modeling evolutionary algorithm using uniform reference points

open access: yesETRI Journal, 2022
The model-based evolutionary algorithms are divided into three groups: estimation of distribution algorithms, inverse modeling, and surrogate modeling. Existing inverse modeling is mainly applied to solve multi-objective optimization problems and is not ...

Rapid Design Optimization and Calibration of Microwave Sensors Based on Equivalent Complementary Resonators for High Sensitivity and Low Fabrication Tolerance

open access: yesSensors, 2023
This paper presents the design, optimization, and calibration of multivariable resonators for microwave dielectric sensors. An optimization technique for the circular complementary split ring resonator (CC-SRR) and square complementary split ring ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Spatial Retrievals of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide from Satellite Observations

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Modern remote-sensing retrievals often invoke a Bayesian approach to infer atmospheric properties from observed radiances. In this approach, plausible mean states and variability for the quantities of interest are encoded in a prior distribution.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Multiscale Stuart-Landau Emulators: Application to Wind-Driven Ocean Gyres

open access: yesFluids, 2018
The multiscale variability of the ocean circulation due to its nonlinear dynamics remains a big challenge for theoretical understanding and practical ocean modeling.

Inversion of a physical model of a trumpet [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. No.99CH36304), 2003
We deal with the inversion of a physical model of a trumpet, i.e. how should the model be controlled in order to obtain a given sound. It is shown that this problem is ill-posed since an infinity of inputs can produce the same sound. Then, a criterion based on the slowness of the musician's gestures compared to the sound signal evolution is used: this ...
