Hydrogeophysical Parameter Estimation Using Iterative Ensemble Smoothing and Approximate Forward Solvers

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2019
In iterative ensemble smoother approaches and ensemble methods in general, the ensemble size governs the accuracy of the parameter estimates obtained.

Concurrence control for transactions with priorities [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Priority inversion occurs when a process is delayed by the actions of another process with less priority. With atomic transactions, the concurrency control mechanism can cause delays, and without taking priorities into account can be a source of priority

Spontaneous and Stimulated Raman Scattering near Metal Nanostructures in the Ultrafast, High-Intensity regime

open access: yes, 2013
The inclusion of atomic inversion in Raman scattering can significantly alter field dynamics in plasmonic settings. Our calculations show that large local fields and femtosecond pulses combine to yield: (i) population inversion within hot spots; (ii ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Invertible Carnot Groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We characterize Carnot groups admitting a 1-quasiconformal metric inversion as the Lie groups of Heisenberg type whose Lie algebras satisfy the $J^2$-condition, thus characterizing a special case of inversion invariant bi-Lipschitz homogeneity.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Theory of Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state of superconductors with and without inversion symmetry: Hubbard model approach

open access: yes, 2007
We study Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state of superconductors with and without inversion symmetry based on the Hubbard model on the square lattice near half-filling, using the random phase approximation.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Joint Inversion of Receiver Functions and Apparent Incidence Angles to Determine the Crustal Structure of Mars

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Recent estimates of the crustal thickness of Mars show a bimodal result of either ∼20 or ∼40 km beneath the InSight lander. We propose an approach based on random matrix theory applied to receiver functions (RFs) to further constrain the subsurface ...
