The Gut Microbiota as a Mediator in the Relationship Between Dietary Patterns and Depression
MedComm, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.Healthy dietary patterns are associated with gut microbial genera linked to lower depressive symptoms. In 644 older adults from the PREDIMED‐Plus cohort, 16S rRNA sequencing and dietary scoring revealed that taxa associated with a better diet quality were also more abundant in individuals with fewer depressive symptoms.Adrián Hernández‐Cacho, Jiaqi Ni, Jesús F. ChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2026.Rationally designed naphthyl pyrazino‐pyrido‐pyrimidinones 3 and 4 inhibited 85%–94% of cancer cell growth. Compound 4 exhibited IC50 = 7.8–12.8 µM with tumor selectivity. Both induced G1 arrest and modulated ULK1, STAT3, alpha‐serine/protein kinase B (AKT), and autophagy via phosphoinositide 3‐kinase/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/mTOR ...Marcelo F. United European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.ABSTRACT Background
Limited data are available on the management and outcomes of postoperative Crohn's disease (CD) in older patients. We aimed to describe the management of CD in the postoperative setting and assess surgical postoperative recurrence (POR) in this population.Míriam Mañosa, Margalida Calafat, Elena Ricart, Pilar Nos, Eva Iglesias, Sabino Riestra, Francisco Mesonero, Marta Calvo, Jordi Guardiola, Vicent Hernández, Montserrat Rivero, Daniel Carpio, Miguel Mínguez, Cristina Alba, Maria Dolores Martín‐Arranz, Milagros Vela, Fernando Gomollón, Santiago García‐López, Ana Gutiérrez Casbas, Xavier Calvet, Carlos González‐Muñoza, Jesús Barrio, Javier P. United European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.ABSTRACT Background
Microscopic colitis (MC), comprising lymphocytic colitis (LC) and collagenous colitis (CC), is an inflammatory bowel disease with increasing incidence. MC etiopathogenesis remains unknown; however, altered colonic epithelial integrity may underlie uncontrolled luminal antigen passage, triggering immuno‐inflammatory responses ...Danila Guagnozzi, Ana Maria Gonzalez‐Castro, Yamile Zabana, Fernando Fernández‐Bañares, Andreas Münch, Eva Tristan, Juan‐José Lozano, Julia Sidorova, Beatriz Lobo, Carmen Alonso‐Cotoner, Elba Exposito, Alfredo J. United European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.ABSTRACT Background & Aims
Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis (MASH) increasingly drives hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. We characterized inflammatory infiltrates in liver biopsies from MASH patients who developed HCC versus controls to identify predictive immune signatures. Method

Microbial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 2, February 2026.We discovered that Salmonella uses structured, recurrent variation in epigenetically regulated promoter regions to fine‐tune gene expression, revealing a novel evolutionary strategy for surface adaptation. ABSTRACT
Bacterial adaptation to dynamic and hostile environments often relies on the ability to modify surface structures, which are subjected to ...Rocío Fernández‐Fernández, Gabriel Gutiérrez, Francine Piubeli, Junkal Garmendia, Carmen R. Beuzón, María Antonia Sánchez‐Romero +5 morewiley +1 more source
