Water binding and hygroscopicity in π-conjugated polyelectrolytes
The presence of water strongly influences structure, dynamics and properties of ion-containing soft matter. Yet, the hydration of such matter is not well understood.

Complexation of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes: effect of ion pair formation [PDF]
Complexation in symmetric solutions of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes is studied theoretically. We include polyion crosslinking due to formation of thermoreversible ionic pairs.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Halogen Bonding Involving CO and CS with Carbon as the Electron Donor
MP2/aug’-cc-pVTZ calculations have been carried out to investigate the halogen-bonded complexes formed when CO and CS act as electron-pair donors through C to ClF, ClNC, ClCl, ClOH, ClCN, ClCCH, and ClNH2.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Interfacial regions attached to hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces have very low relative permittivities (ε ∼ 3–5), and these low values induce the formation of ion pairs.

Dissociative Electron Attachment Cross Sections for H2 and D2 [PDF]
New measurements of the absolute cross sections for dissociative electron attachment (DEA) in molecular hydrogen and deuterium are presented which resolve previous ambiguities and provide a test bed for theory.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Ion Pairing and Outer Sphere Effect
Ion-ion and ion-solvent interactions are presented from the point of view of the donor-acceptor concept. The solvent donor properties are characterised by the donor number and the solvent acceptor properties by the acceptor number.

Developing a potentiometric sunset yellow selective electrode and its applications
We developed a potentiometric ion-selective electrode (ISE) for detecting the food dye sunset yellow (SY). Sunset yellow-Methyltrioctylammonium chloride ion pairs were synthesized.
