Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

“Separated” versus “Contact” Ion-Pair Structures in Solution from Their Crystalline States: Dynamic Effects on Dinitrobenzenide as a Mixed-Valence Anion [PDF]
Qualitative structural concepts about dynamic ion pairs, historically deduced in solution as labile solvent-separated and contact species, are now quantified by the low-temperature isolation of crystalline (reactive) salts suitable for direct X-ray ...

Ion pair formation via photoinduced proton transfer in excited hydroxynaphthalimide-N-methylimidazole hydrogen bonded complex: effect of temperature and viscosity on dual fluorescence [PDF]
The kinetics of photoinduced processes in the hydrogen bonded complex between N-methyl-3- hydroxynaphthalimide and 1-methylimidazole was studied in a wide temperature range in ethyl acetate and glycerol triacetate.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The ION‐CAGE Code: A Numerical Model for the Growth of Charged and Neutral Aerosols
The presence of small ions influences the growth dynamics of a size distribution of aerosols. Specifically, the often neglected mass of small ions influences the aerosol growth rate, which may be important for terrestrial cloud formation. To this end, we

USE OF AGENTS OXIDANTS/PRECIPITATING PERMANGANATE/ CARBONATE PEROXIDE /UREA FOR SELECTIVE PRECIPITATION OF CERIUM ION [PDF]
The separation of mixtures of rare earth elements (REE) is difficult to perform due to the similarities of their chemical and physical properties. Literature report the particular property in Ce ion oxidize in contact with strong oxidizing agents and ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
