Measurement of Ion-Pairing Interactions in Buffer Solutions With Microwave Microfluidics

IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology, 2019
Microwave microfluidic spectroscopy is an emerging technique for quantifying the frequency-dependent electrical response of fluids. This technique can access important physical properties, including ion mobility and hydration, which are directly applicable to biochemistry. One critical step toward quantifying these effects is to develop accurate models

Weak Interactions., Ionic H-Bonds, and Ion Pairs

1997
Abstract The classic picture of a H-bond involves the approach of a pair of neutral molecules. One contains a hydrogen atom covalently attached to a highly electronegative atom like O or F. The other molecule also contains an electronegative atom, associated with which is at least one lone pair of nonbonding electrons.

Molecular interactions in 2-hydroxyethyl-trimethylammonium acetate (choline acetate) ion pair

Journal of Chemical Sciences, 2020
The molecular structure, electron density topography, vibrational frequencies and molecular interactions of the choline acetate ion pair were investigated using M05-2X based density functional approach. Different conformers of choline acetate ion pair based on molecular interactions were obtained in the gas phase and also in a solvent environment.

Effect of Glutamate Side Chain Length on Intrahelical Glutamate–Lysine Ion Pairing Interactions

Biochemistry, 2012
Ion pairing interactions between oppositely charged amino acids are important for protein structure stability. Despite the apparent electrostatic nature of these interactions, the charged amino acids Lys, Arg, Glu, and Asp have a different number of hydrophobic methylenes linking the charged functionality to the backbone.

Interactions in ion pairs of protic ionic liquids: Comparison with aprotic ionic liquids

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2013
The stabilization energies for the formation (Eform) of 11 ion pairs of protic and aprotic ionic liquids were studied by MP2/6-311G** level ab initio calculations to elucidate the difference between the interactions of ions in protic ionic liquids and those in aprotic ionic liquids.

Enhanced ionic interaction in narrow pores and ion pair formation

European Biophysics Journal, 1994
The same physical phenomenon that gives rise to the increase in the electrostatic self-energy of an ion within a narrow water-filled pore is shown to result in interionic electrical interactions within the pore that are much stronger and of longer range than those between the same ions in the same solution in bulk.

Chromium Ion Pair Interactions in the Paramagnetic Resonance Spectrum of Ruby

Journal of Applied Physics, 1961
The paramagnetic resonance spectrum of Cr3+ pairs in ruby which interact via exchange and dipolar forces have been studied at 15.74 kMc in the temperature range 1.2° to 700°K. Theoretical analysis predicts and experiments confirm that relatively distant neighbors with negligible exchange coupling give rise to resonance lines which cluster around ...

Separation of ten phosphorylated mono-and disaccharides using HILIC and ion-pairing interactions

Analytica Chimica Acta, 2017
Phosphorylated carbohydrates are indispensable cogs in several key metabolic wheels for all forms of life. Here, a straightforward liquid chromatography method coupled to mass spectrometry detection was developed for phosphorylated sugars. For separation of the targeted compounds, hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) was used with a bridged ...

Origin of 19F hyperfine interaction in Mn2+ ion and ion pair

Physica B+C, 1980
Abstract The theory of transferred hyperfine interaction at the F - site in the mixed σ - and π - bonding Mn 2+ F - and Mn 2+ F - Mn 2+ systems is developed from first principles. The transfer of electrons from the occupied p and s orbitals of F - ion to the empty d orbits on the Mn 2+ ion is considered and all the integrals of the kinetic ...
