Nanostructuring Graphene by Dense Electronic Excitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The ability to manufacture tailored graphene nanostructures is a key factor to fully exploit its enormous technological potential. We have investigated nanostructures created in graphene by swift heavy ion induced folding.

Spin‐Wave Optics in YIG Realized by Ion‐Beam Irradiation

open access: yesSmall, 2023
AbstractDirect focused‐ion‐beam writing is presented as an enabling technology for realizing functional spin‐wave devices of high complexity, and demonstrate its potential by optically‐inspired designs. It is shown that ion‐beam irradiation changes the characteristics of yttrium iron garnet films on a submicron scale in a highly controlled way ...

Effects of Carbon Ion Beam Irradiation on Phenotypic Variations and Biochemical Parameters in Early Generations of Soybean Plants

open access: yesAgriculture, 2021
Understanding the characteristics of carbon ion beam irradiation-induced mutation is essential to its potential application in plant breeding. A carbon ion beam-mutagenized soybean population was generated from the newly released soybean variety ...

Low-temperature ion beam mixing of Pt and Si markers in Ge [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
The mixing of Pt and Si marker atoms in Ge during 750-keV Xe irradiation was measured at temperatures between 6 and 500 K. The low-temperature measurements show that the mixing parameter for Pt is nearly twice that for Si.

The influence of Ga$^+$-irradiation on the transport properties of mesoscopic conducting thin films

open access: yes, 2010
We studied the influence of 30keV Ga$^+$-ions -- commonly used in focused ion beam (FIB) devices -- on the transport properties of thin crystalline graphite flake, La$_{0.7}$Ca$_{0.3}$MnO$_3$ and Co thin films.

Key mechanistic features of swelling and blistering of helium-ion-irradiated tungsten [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Helium-ion-induced swelling and blistering of single-crystal tungsten is investigated using a Helium Ion Microscope for site-specific dose-controlled irradiation (at 25 keV) with analysis by Helium Ion Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy and Transmission

Ion-beam modification of the magnetic properties of GaMnAs epilayers

open access: yes, 2010
We study the controlled introduction of defects in GaMnAs by irradiating the samples with energetic ion beams, which modify the magnetic properties of the DMS.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Determination of cross sections of polymer radiation depletion by particular elements from the ion beam analysis data [PDF]

open access: yesЯдерна фізика та енергетика, 2007
Process of depletion of polymer substance by various elements under external irradiation is considered. For determination of depletion cross sections, an expression is derived in terms of measurable emission yields, generated by an analyzing fast ion ...
