Stochastic models of ion channel gating
Stochastic models of ion channel gating date back as far as the pioneering work of Hodgkin and Huxley (1952), whose gating variables are often interpreted as probabilities. Sakmann and Neher directed the efforts that led to the first single-channel recordings, for which they won the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1991.

Regiorandom Polythiophenes for Fully Stretchable Electrochemical Transistors and Logic Circuits
Regiorandom (RRa) polythiophenes, once regarded as unsuitable for electronics, exhibit exceptional switching performance via volumetric electrochemical doping. Optimized RRa‐based organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) achieve a high on/off ratio (≈104), stable operation under 200% strain, and enable fully stretchable logic gates, demonstrating ...

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

Structure-based membrane dome mechanism for Piezo mechanosensitivity
Mechanosensitive ion channels convert external mechanical stimuli into electrochemical signals for critical processes including touch sensation, balance, and cardiovascular regulation. The best understood mechanosensitive channel, MscL, opens a wide pore,

Thermodynamics of voltage-gated ion channels [PDF]
Ion channels are essential for cellular signaling. Voltage-gated ion channels (VGICs) are the largest and most extensively studied superfamily of ion channels. They possess modular structural features such as voltage-sensing domains that encircle and form mechanical connections with the pore-forming domains.

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

Lipid-mediated hydrophobic gating in the BK potassium channel
Structures of the large-conductance, calcium-activated potassium (BK) channel in the Ca2+ −bound and Ca2+ −free states have suggested that K+ conduction is not gated via a steric closure of the pore-lining helices of the channel, in contrast to the ...

Voltage dependence of Hodgkin-Huxley rate functions for a multi-stage K channel voltage sensor within a membrane [PDF]
The activation of a $K^+$ channel sensor in two sequential stages during a voltage clamp may be described as the translocation of a Brownian particle in an energy landscape with two large barriers between states.
