Nanomachining Graphene with Ion Irradiation [PDF]
AbstractWe present molecular dynamics simulations using both empirical potentials (EP) and density functional theory (DFT) on ion irradiation of graphene. The comparison between the two methods shows that EP gives not only qualitatively but also quantitatively reasonable estimates of defect production during ion irradiation in carbon nanosystems.

Ion-Irradiation-Induced Cobalt/Cobalt Oxide Heterostructures: Printing 3D Interfaces [PDF]
Interfaces separating ferromagnetic (FM) layers from non-ferromagnetic layers offer unique properties due to spin–orbit coupling and symmetry breaking, yielding effects such as exchange bias, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, spin-pumping, spin-transfer

Control of magnetoelastic coupling in Ni/Fe multilayers using He + ion irradiation [PDF]
International audienceThis study reports the effects of post-growth He + irradiation on the magneto-elastic properties of a Ni/Fe multi-layered stack. The progressive intermixing caused by He + irradiation at the interfaces of the multilayer allows us to

Transmission electron microscopy with in situ ion irradiation [PDF]
The macroscopic properties of materials exposed to irradiation are determined by radiation damage effects which occur on the nanoscale. These phenomena are complex dynamic processes in which many competing mechanisms contribute to the evolution of the ...

Superior Effect of the Combination of Carbon-Ion Beam Irradiation and 5-Fluorouracil on Colorectal Cancer Stem Cells in vitro and in vivo [PDF]
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate whether carbon-ion beam irradiation in combination with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is superior to carbon-ion beam irradiation alone in targeting colorectal cancer stem-like cells (CSCs).

In-situ observation and atomic resolution imaging of the ion irradiation induced amorphisation of graphene [PDF]
Ion irradiation has been observed to induce a macroscopic flattening and in-plane shrinkage of graphene sheets without a complete loss of crystallinity.

Hole doping effect of MoS2 via electron capture of He+ ion irradiation
Beyond the general purpose of noble gas ion sputtering, which is to achieve functional defect engineering of two-dimensional (2D) materials, we herein report another positive effect of low-energy (100 eV) He+ ion irradiation: converting n-type MoS2 to p ...
