Strength and Deformation of Ionic Materials [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
Summary The necessary conditions for plastic deformation in ionic solids are readily defined. There must be mobile dislocations in sufficient numbers, on a sufficient number of slip systems for a general strain to take place at the applied strain rate. Provided these conditions are fulfilled an ionic solid may be ductile.

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Physico-chemical properties of ionic-liquid water mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In order for Ionic Liquids (ILs) to be utilized to their full potential, it is necessary to have a complete understanding of their physical properties, including phase transitions temperatures1. We have previously reported into the extent of structuring

Spectrophotometric and pH-Metric Studies of Ce(III), Dy(III), Gd(III),Yb(III) and Pr(III) Metal Complexes with Rifampicin

open access: yesE-Journal of Chemistry, 2011
The metal-ligand and proton-ligand stability constant of Ce(III), Dy(III), Gd(III),Yb(III) and Pr(III) metals with substituted heterocyclic drug (Rifampicin) were determined at various ionic strength by pH metric titration.

The effects of ionic strength on the toxicity of aluminium to Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) under non-steady state chemical conditions

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2002
We have tested the influence of water ionic strength on the toxicity of aluminium in fish by comparing the mortality of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) parr exposed to Al-rich water with additions of Ca2+ or Na+.

Evolution‐guided yeast complementation reveals functional differences in human PSPH variants

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ancient genomes can help guide which human genetic variants are tested experimentally. This study applies that idea to PSPH, a gene involved in serine biosynthesis, and uses high‐throughput yeast complementation to compare variant function. The findings reveal measurable differences among selected alleles and illustrate the value of evolution‐guided ...

Adenosine triphosphate as a modulator of protein interactions and stability

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ATP is best known as the cell's energy currency, but it also shapes how proteins fold, interact, aggregate and form biomolecular condensates. This review explains the emerging physical principles behind these effects, including weak binding to charged protein regions, magnesium‐dependent behaviour and concentration‐dependent control of protein ...

Influence of pectin characteristics on complexation with ß-lactoglobulin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Pectin and proteins are both common food constituents. The type of pectin that forms complexes with protein is known to be of great influence on the structure and stability of liquid foods.

Purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 for phase separation studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe detailed protocols for the purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 (MpARF2). This protein is fused to an MBP solubility tag and an mNG fluorescent tag and is purified from Escherichia coli. The presented procedures make it possible to study MpARF2 assemblies, which could arise from phase separation ...
