Ozone‐driven degradation of sex pheromone in Plutella xylostella: Implications for reproductive communication and mating success

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we examined whether realistic ozone concentrations can interfere with sexual communication in the insect pest Plutella xylostella, the diamondback moth. Ozone exposure caused a degradation of pheromone components, leading to significant changes in blend composition and component ratios.

Does Rodent Management Impact the Distribution of Rattus rattus and Mastomys natalensis in Village Settings?

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Ecological differences between species may result in differential impacts of control measures. Our experimental study showed that intensive removal of rodents from houses (mostly Rattus rattus) resulted in increased use of houses by Mastomys natalensis, a species usually found outdoors. Our results suggest that M.

From Data to Knowledge to Wisdom: Lessons Learned From the Vancouver Rat Project

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
A synthesis of 15 years of research conducted by the Vancouver Rat Project revealed that: (1) Pathogen ecology within rat colonies is the result of complex interactions among rats, pathogens, and vectors. (2) Local and global population structures influence rat and pathogen ecology.

Ecological examples of nonstationarity, nonlinearity and statistical interactions in dynamic structural equation models

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Ecologists are adapting structural causal modelling for spatial, phylogenetic and time‐series analysis. However, ecological extensions of path analysis and structural equation models (SEM) typically assume that interactions among variables are stationary, linear and additive, while ecological and evolutionary dynamics are often nonstationary ...
