Investigation of Aspergillus flavus Infection and Aflatoxin Accumulation in Pulses During Growth and Development

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Aflatoxins (AFL) are mycotoxins produced by Aspergillus flavus that pose major risks to food safety. This study evaluated fungal growth and AFL production in planta across the following five pulse species: chickpeas (Cicer arietinum L.), lentils (Lens culinaris Medik.), peas (Pisum sativum L.), soybeans (Glycine max L.), and with corn (Zea ...

The Zooplankton International Geospatial dataset: A global repository of spatiotemporal freshwater zooplankton community composition data from lakes and reservoirs to support ecological research

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, Volume 11, Issue 5, September 2026.
Abstract Zooplankton transfer substantial energy in aquatic food webs and are used as indicators of environmental change. Syntheses of zooplankton community dynamics globally require datasets that span a wide range of environmental gradients; however, these datasets are limited due to methodological differences across programs, taxonomic ...

Population Dynamics of Greenhouse Thrips (Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis) on Avocado Under Single and Combined Predator Releases

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 53, Issue 3, September 2026.
The greenhouse thrips, Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bouché, 1833), is an important avocado pest in New Zealand, where repeated infestations reduce leaf quality and tree vigour. To assess biological control stability under different predator assemblages, this study evaluated thrips population dynamics and predator survival across two sequential phases ...

Managing pests by increasing predators through late termination of cover crops

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 9, Page 8477-8487, September 2026.
Adding cover crops to crop rotations can improve the sustainability and ecosystem functioning of agroecosystems. By delaying cover‐crop termination, growers can effectively increase natural enemy populations and reduce the need for chemical controls. Abstract BACKGROUND Adding cover crops to crop rotations can improve the sustainability and ecosystem ...

Drought stress modulates indirect defense via bottom‐up effects in tomato and wheat

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 9, Page 8499-8511, September 2026.
Different water regimes can have a significant impact on plant morphology and defense pathways in tomato and wheat, triggering multiple olfactory choices in biocontrol agents of key insect pests. These findings could be used to implement biocontrol strategies within the IPM context under a changing climate scenario.
