Aerobic Exercise Restores Hippocampal Neurogenesis and Cognitive Function by Decreasing Microglia Inflammasome Formation Through Irisin/NLRP3 Pathway

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Exercise improved PD pathology and memory by reducing microglial inflammation, apoptosis, and the formation of the NLRP3 inflammasome via irisin signaling. Irisin administration partially replicated the beneficial effects of exercise on PD pathology.

Serum irisin levels and its association with blood glucose and insulin indices in diagnosing insulin resistance in adolescents with polycystic ovarian syndrome

open access: yesJournal of Human Reproductive Sciences, 2021
Context: Irisin, a new myokine, has been found to be a biological marker of insulin resistance (IR). There is conflicting evidence on serum irisin level in adult women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and data are lacking in adolescents with PCOS.

Laser-scanning cytometry can quantify human adipocyte browning and proves effectiveness of irisin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Laser-scanning cytometry is presented as a tool allowing population scale analysis of ex vivo human brown adipogenic differentiation. It combines texture analysis and detection of Ucp1 protein content in single brown adipocytes of mixed cell populations ...

Postconditioning with Irisin Attenuates Lung Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury by Suppressing Ferroptosis via Induction of the Nrf2/HO-1 Signal Axis

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, 2022
Iron‐dependent lipid peroxidation causes ferroptosis. This study was aimed at verifying that irisin postconditioning can inhibit ferroptosis and minimize lung ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) damage via activating the Nrf2/HO‐1 signal axis.

Sirt3 Rescues Porphyromonas gingivalis‐Impaired Cementogenesis via SOD2 Deacetylation

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Sirt3 deacetylated SOD2 via K68 to orchestrate P.g.‐impaired cementogenesis. Reestablishment of the Sirt3/SOD2 axis by honokiol reduced SOD2 acetylation and facilitated cementogenesis. ABSTRACT The keystone pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.g.) is responsible for cementum resorption in periodontitis; however, the mechanism involved in it remains ...

Irisin directly stimulates osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption in vitro and in vivo

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Irisin, a skeletal-muscle secreted myokine, facilitates muscle-bone crosstalk and skeletal remodeling in part by its action on osteoblasts and osteocytes. In this study, we investigated whether irisin directly regulates osteoclasts.

Exercise Delays Brain Ageing Through Muscle‐Brain Crosstalk

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the reciprocal crosstalk between the brain and peripheral organs, highlighting the profound impact of exercise on brain health through systemic interactions. It underscores how exercise influences the brain via signals from various organs and, conversely, how the brain modulates functions of peripheral organs.

Irisin alleviates obesity-related spermatogenesis dysfunction via the regulation of the AMPKα signalling pathway

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2021
Background Infertility is a common complication in obese men. Oxidative stress and testicular apoptosis play critical roles in obesity-induced spermatogenesis dysfunction.

Neuroplasticity to autophagy cross-talk in a therapeutic effect of physical exercises and irisin in ADHD

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2023
Adaptive neuroplasticity is a pivotal mechanism for healthy brain development and maintenance, as well as its restoration in disease- and age-associated decline. Management of mental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) needs
