Iron intake, body iron status, and risk of breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2019
Background Iron has been shown to promote breast carcinogenesis in animal models through generation of oxidative stress and interaction with estrogen. Heme iron, which is found exclusively in animal-sourced foods, is suggested to have a more detrimental ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Pengaruh Asupan Protein dan Zat Besi (Fe) terhadap Kadar Hemoglobin pada Wanita Bekerja

open access: yesJurnal Kesehatan, 2017
Anemia is a condition where the hemoglobin (Hb) is lower than the normal value according to age and sex of a person caused by certain factors, including intake of nutrients one protein and iron, with the percentage of women in Indonesia who have anemia ...

Perbedaan Asupan Zat Besi Ibu Hamil Anemia dan non-Anemia di Jakarta Timur

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Human Nutrition, 2022

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Dietary haem-iron and iron supplementation in the third trimester are associated with gestational diabetes mellitus risk: cross-sectional analysis of a prospective study

open access: yesHeliyon
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) poses significant short- and long-term risks to both mother and foetus. Understanding how maternal iron intake from foods and supplements influences GDM risk is crucial.

Iron intake is positively associated with viral load in antiretroviral naïve Brazilian men living with HIV [PDF]

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2020
BACKGROUND Iron homeostasis contribute for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pathogenesis. OBJECTIVES We assessed the iron intake pattern in antiretroviral naïve Brazilian men living with HIV correlating with clinical and nutritional parameters.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Dietary iron intake, body iron stores, and the risk of type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Medicine, 2012
Background Excess iron has been shown to induce diabetes in animal models. However, the results from human epidemiologic studies linking body iron stores and iron intake to the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are conflicting.
