Enzymatic iron oxidation by Leptothrix discophora: identification of an iron-oxidizing protein [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1992
An iron-oxidizing factor was identified in the spent culture medium of the iron- and manganese-oxidizing bacterial strain Leptothrix discophora SS-1. It appeared to be a protein, with an apparent molecular weight of approximately 150,000. Its activity could be demonstrated after fractionation of the spent medium by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide

Choroid Plexus Enlargement and USPIO‐Based Inflammatory Feature in Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The choroid plexus (CP) is a key component of the blood–cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB), but its mechanism of action in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. This study investigated CP volume (CPV) alterations and their association with conventional imaging markers in CSVD and explored the underlying role of ...

Single step growth of iron oxide nanoparticles and their use as glucose biosensor

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2017
Iron-oxide nanoparticles are synthesized by the Green Chemistry method and using Gooseberry leaves extract as reducing agent. The characterization of the nanoparticles was carried by the common tools which include UV–Vis, SEM, EDX, XRD, FTIR and CV.

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Benefits and risks of iron supplementation in anemic neonatal pigs. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Iron deficiency is a common health problem. The most severe consequence of this disorder is iron deficiency anemia (IDA), which is considered the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide. Newborn piglets are an ideal model to explore the multifaceted

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...
