Reduction and characterizations of iron particles: influence of reduction parameters

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science: Materials in Electronics, 2013
Iron particles have some applications as electromagnetic devices in magnetic recording and data storage technology due to their small sizes and high data storage capacity. The devices can be advanced by improving the properties of existing materials according to the production parameters.

Reduction Extraction Kinetics of Titania and Iron from an Ilmenite by H-2-Ar Gas Mixtures

open access: yes, 2009
Reduction of an ilmenite concentrate as a natural concentration containing 49.78mass% TiO2 and 2796 mass% total Fe by H-2-Ar gas mixtures was investigated from 1073 to 1 273 K.

Methanogens and Their Syntrophic Partners Dominate Zones of Enhanced Magnetic Susceptibility at a Petroleum Contaminated Site

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2021
Geophysical investigations documenting enhanced magnetic susceptibility (MS) within the water table fluctuation zone at hydrocarbon contaminated sites suggest that MS can be used as a proxy for investigating microbial mediated iron reduction during ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Genome Analysis and Description of Three Novel Diazotrophs Geomonas Species Isolated From Paddy Soils

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Five strictly anaerobic strains, designated RG2T, RG3, RG10T, RF4T, and RG29, were isolated from paddy soils in China. Strains RG2T, RF4T, RG10T, RG3, and RG29 grew at temperatures ranging 5–42°C and pH ranging 5.5–8.5.

The multiple facets of root iron reduction [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2017
The biological significance of iron (Fe) is based on its propensity to oscillate between the ferric and ferrous forms, a transition that also affects its phyto-availability in soils. With the exception of grasses, Fe3+ is unavailable to plants. Most angiosperms employ a reduction-based Fe uptake mechanism, which relies on enzymatic reduction of ferric ...

Evidence for microbial iron reduction in the methanic sediments of the oligotrophic southeastern Mediterranean continental shelf

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2019
. Dissimilatory iron reduction is probably one of the oldest types of metabolisms that still participates in important biogeochemical cycles, such as those of carbon and sulfur.

Integration of coal pyrolysis process with iron ore reduction: Reduction behaviors of iron ore with benzene-containing coal pyrolysis gas as a reducing agent

open access: yes, 2016
An integrated coal pyrolysis process with iron ore reduction is proposed in this article. As the first step, iron oxide reduction is studied in a fixed bed reactor using simulated coal pyrolysis gas with benzene as a model tar compound. Variables such as

Characterization of lacustrine iron sulfide particles with proton-induced X-ray emission. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Black particles, collected by filtration (1.2~pm pore size) from the anoxic waters of a soft-water lake, were examined by a scanning proton microprobe which permitted quantitative elemental analysis by proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) and Rutherford ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
